I was told that exact thing when I went through the Chollar Mine tour in Virginia City. The timber braces are extremely close to each other, and it’s clear even to me how very friable that earth there is. What I don’t think enough people appreciate is that the rocks are always moving.

I was given morphine once in a medical setting. I didn’t feel high, just calmly blissful. If someone told me, “We have to amputate your foot now,” I would’ve accepted it with utter serenity, and I am not serene by nature. That experience gave me a lot more sympathy for addicts. A *lot.*

I wouldn’t object IF teachers cd also discuss texts from other faiths and provide historical context…but most of all to discuss the ethical implications of the text. For example, ask the question of whether Eve did *wrong* by eating the fruit. Why or why not? (And don’t have a “right answer.”)
