Managed to get a few hours at the Desembocadura del Guadalhorce( Málaga)this morning. Highlight was the Red Knobbed Coot ( Laguna Escondida). A few pairs of Little Tern are breeding. Good variety of gulls including a small number of Audouin's. #birdingmalaga #birdingandalucía #BirdsSeenIn2026

A morning of good looking little brown passerines on the patch in Riogordo (Málaga) yesterday. Pair of Short Toed Treecreeper, Olivaceous Warbler, still a good number of Spanish Sparrow, Spotted Flycatcher and a few Zitting Cisticolas in the wheat fields. #PatchBirding #BirdsSeenIn2026

Bright & breezy day at Arroyo de las Zorreras (Riogordo/ Málaga). Windy conditions meant only fleeting views of most birds though this nightingale sat still long enough for a 📸 A huge noisy flock of Spanish Sparrow in the eucalyptus trees. 27 species. #birdingmalaga #BirdsSeenIn2006 #PatchBirding

Combined a visit to the excellent Andalucía Bird Festival in Montejaque near Ronda On the nearby Llanos de Libar Black Wheatear, Chough, Peregrine, Short Toed Eagle, Blue Rock Thrush, Melodious Warbler as well as the numerous Griffon Vultures. #birdingmalaga #birdingandalucía #BirdsSeenIn2026

A couple of hours at the Rio Grande near Cártama today . Despite lots of disturbance (helicopters landing and taking off, diggers and loose dogs - it's amazing what birds will tolerate) managed to see a good variety of waders and raptors. 29 species seen. #birdingmalaga #BirdsSeenIn2026

Transition from winter to spring underway at the patch in Riogordo. Winter visitors are gradually disappearing and the first house martins arriving. 23 species seen today. Notable were Blue Rock Thrush and 2 Rock Sparrows. Surprised to see a cormorant fly overhead. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #patchbirding

A midday visit to the Guadalmedina river in Málaga. Highlights included Wryneck, Bluethroat & Water Pipit. Couldn't find the recently reported Jack Snipe near the stadium but was busy as it was a match day. 24 species seen. Great urban site for birding in Málaga. #birdingmalaga #urbanbirding

A beautiful September morning, so decided to head up to Tajo Gomer above Riogordo. Saw my first Common Redstarts of the autumn and a Whinchat amongst good numbers of Stonechat. Hundreds of House Martins and around 6 Griffon Vultures flying around. 24 bird species seen. A few Ibex too but distant.
