Yes, this is exactly what I predicted in 2019 already. By 2030 you will not find a new gas car at the dealer. There will be a few unsold ones at the back of the room that's been there for years with significant discounts yet no one even looks at them anymore.

Ships use heavy fuel oil, not diesel, but yes fossil fuel will be used for quite some time. However the market will certainly be shrinking so even if it's not completely gone oil will be much less important in the future.
