The mistaken identity rule as written seems to only allow the referee to re-adjudicate who is responsible for a given foul, not what other foul may have transpired in a given incident. It applies to the identity of the perpetrator of one foul, not two separate ones.

The issue here is not that this conclusion is wrong (since, once again, it’s been plain to see for quite awhile), it’s that uncritically accepting the interpretations of reality offered by those in positions of symbolic power (like Pinker, among others) is what got us, and the NYT, to this point.
