I swear I have another box full of cables around here somewhere. I need another empty box anyway for full-size type-B cables. But this is a huge improvement.

Just look at this absolute beast. 150mm x 50mm, almost 260CFM. 1.8A@12V. This thing rips.

My 6-pin SOT test socket breakout boards turned out great. The pin number text is a bit obscured on the SOT-23 board, but I can live with it. Huge improvement over the original garbage they came with. I'm calling this one a win.

So, here's my version. 0.6" spacing, MUCH simpler pinout with full labeling, and I've listed all of the various manufacturer package aliases on each for easy reference.

To make matters worse, even with all of that empty PCB space, they didn't label the damn thing at all. Well... there's an arrow with a "1" next to it. That only tells you how to orient the chip. No labeling of the DIP pins whatsoever.

So close to finishing up this electrical service upgrade. Can't wait to be rid of the old death trap that is the original 100 year-old fuse box...

Update: the main problem of being able to over-tighten the cap seems to actually be a flaw with the included bottle. I found an old bottle with a compatible thread and it actually tightens down properly. Still a bit fiddly, but MUCH better. Just needs a label on the bottle...

Recently remembered these from an old foone thread and decided to give it a try. Great idea, absolute trash execution. There's no hard stop on the threads, if you turn it too far, it will "click over" and turn off, you have to manually stop at just the right spot. ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆

Using @Captnshacky's fantastic SNES shell model to do a quick fit check, and it's tight, but I think it just baaaarely fits. Time to send off the gerbers :D

I just dropped an SC-70 MOSFET (slightly smaller than a SOT23) onto this carpet AND I FOUND IT. So, I'm feeling pretty good right now 😁

Super handy reference from @onsemi for disambiguating between these easily confused packages and their many aliases.

Maybe try searching around through their "super deals" page and see if the better price comes up that way. It definitely is (or at least was) there.

New project: re-spooling all of these crimp terminals onto more reasonably sized spools. The orange one took 10 hours to print and holds 1,000 crimp terminals. I have... a bit of work ahead of me 😱

This morning, I was made aware of a QA fail on an order of SGB link port boards. I do all PCBA in-house, so this one's on me. I'm going through all existing stock to make sure this doesn't happen again.

To fill each compartment, stack all of the same value in order by decade. So 1/10/100/1K/10K/etc all go in one stack and into the first compartment. Next is 1.2/12/120/etc. Now it's easy to find any value, just look up the number, pull out the stack, and find the right decade.

As for organization, take advantage of the fact that there are 24 standard values in a 1% set, or 12 standard values in a 5% set. Look for a container with 12 or 24 compartments. They need to be ~3" long and 1-1.5" wide.

Dug deeeep into the pile of old project ideas and almost pulled off the entire thing in one sitting. Now to do a bit of bikeshedding before finalizing the schematic and starting on traces. The ESP32 feels kind of wasted, I'm sure I could find some fun stuff to throw in there...

Hopefully, I should be able to order my next revision of BlueRetro SNES internal PCB's soon. Just finished relocating the entire power section because of the stupid relay not fitting into the case, all that's left is to get my flatbed scanner working to validate cutout positions.

This is pretty close to final. MUCH better mating to the rest of the model, it looks way better, the screw holes actually line up. Just gotta print 30 hours worth of parts you see how it turns out IRL, and I'll actually have files available for download this time around. 😁

Finally getting around to fixing up the C4 Doom Shroud model I've been putting off forever. This is the old version. Note how the right hand side doesn't match up to the magwell along the bottom.

Z offset wasn't quite dialed in on the original print, resulting in elephant's foot and a slightly squished model, so the floating bits ended up a bit higher than they should have, resulting in a less than perfect seam, but still... successful proof of concept!

Fun Pi Pico discovery... unlike standard Python, MicroPython uses single-precision, 32-bit floats. It also doesn't include the decimal module for proper fixed point operations, either. 🦶🔫

Random IT musing. I wonder, on average, across the entire internet, how many of these exact switches (or the more common 5 port variant) does the typical packet pass through. I swear, these netgear GS10x unmanaged switches are the true backbone of modern networking 🤣
