Choosing a nightmare. Each one is a diorama in a bubble —and behind each, its own scoreboard. Escaping is where a run starts. The scoreboard is where it ends. #indiedev #indiegames

Loading tip: "Sneak up just behind a Sentinel to pet them." The tip ends there. The rest is on screen: the Sentinel melts into a puddle of beer, and the Beast can drown in a puddle of beer. The stealth takedown in this game is a kindness. #indiedev #indiegames

Arm's reach, wet asphalt, no Tonic in my pocket. That's the whole story: with a Tonic I outrun the Beast. Without one, it's always a tad faster than me. And a tad is all it needs. #screenshotsaturday

Night rain in the Parking Lot: the Beast mid-lunge at arm's reach behind Rani, both silhouetted on wet, rain-lit asphalt.

Bunny Mask, closer than she ever needs to be, at the top of the tallest building in every nightmare. The prompt when you reach her says SAY HI. Nobody explains why she waits. Unlock enough memories and you'll know. #screenshotsaturday

Night, inside a glass elevator climbing a tower's curved glass wall: Rani sketched in outline, two outlined cats beside her, the moon behind clouds outside.

On the moonlit rooftop, Bunny Mask sits on a ledge above Rani, leaning forward, hands on knees; the button prompt between them reads SAY HI.

Extreme close-up: the edge of Bunny Mask's mask and her long hair catching the moonlight, the moon small in a cloudy teal sky.

The cat-meter, always on screen: a greyed icon is a captive cat, a white one a free cat. A hopping cat smells your catnip; an aura means it's in your area. And the X? A darling the Beast has devoured. You'll do a lot to never hear that scream. #indiedev #indiegames

Close crop of BATEYD's cat-meter against a dark cemetery edge: a row of nine cat-head icons — several greyed, a few edged in a gold aura, one lifted mid-hop above the row, and three crossed out in red.

No darkness, no fog. I call it "Sunlit Horror". You can see where everything is, where everything could come from. And yet, it's still terrifying. A playtester: "My cortisol levels have never been that high." #indiedev #indiegames

From a high ledge, Rani overlooks the School's open-air Science Lab in full sunlight: lab benches and cafeteria tables below, an insectoid Sentinel hovering by a counter on the left, oversized glass towers rising behind a white fence, tree shade dappled across the floor.

The Beer Puddle is a rule, not a gamble: the Beast stumbles in, every time, in any weather. Getting it there is your half of the arrangement. #screenshotsaturday

Parking Lot at night in the rain: the Beast mid-leap beside a glowing yellow beer puddle as cat follow Rani escaping; cages and trucks behind, red seen-frame around the screen.

Cemetery in daylight: the Beast trapped after stumbling into a Beer Puddle.

Loading tip 25: "Throw a steak and the Beast will eat it, sparing your darlings." The Beast is not complicated. The Beast is hungry. Complicated is your job. #indiedev #indiegames

We open in a psychiatrist's office. One conversation, before anything else. "Welcome back. What would you like to talk about?" Somewhere in the answer, two years are missing. The journal keeps what the nightmares give back: twenty memories, filed by meaning, not time. Order them. #screenshotsaturday

The journal: a desk and a hand holding a pen over an open memory page titled Clubbing, with a sketch and handwritten text. Category icons run along the bottom of the page.

A beer puddle is a trap you spring on a Beast mid-chase, if your nerve holds. It also fits neatly under a Beast that hasn't woken up yet. It wakes, it's stuck — and I spend its bad morning walking cats out of the school. #indiedev #indiegames

Vines are for Rani. She plants them, she climbs them; the cats watch from the lantern light below. The elevator is for everyone — though it refuses to move without a cat nearby. House rules. #screenshotsaturday

Dusk outside the rave: a graffiti-covered wall, Rani climbing planted vines, a bunch of cats queued below.

Blue glass high-rise interior at night: Rani and cats wait beside the elevator machinery under a moonlit grid of windows.

The cats follow the catnip. The catnip is in your pocket. The Beast is behind all of you. Everything that happens at the end of this clip is, technically, your fault. #indiedev #indiegames

Before the first nightmare, your therapist asks what dying should look like. Head off, everything distorts, or you shrink until you're gone. Whichever you choose, the game keeps your word — and you'll be seeing it often. #screenshotsaturday

Death screen in a rain-soaked night parking lot: the Beast, a lean dark creature, bends over Rani's collapsed body under a streetlight, her head on the wet asphalt. A banner reads 'The Beast chopped your head off' above Try Again and Nightmare Selection prompts, inside a torn red frame

Death screen: a psychedelic color-split room where a sparkling silhouette dissolves beside a giant cat. A banner reads 'Distorted and confused, it was the end' above Try Again and Nightmare Selection prompts, inside a torn red frame

Death screen in daylight, camera at ground level: the Beast's silhouette towers into a glaring sky between trees and high-rises as Rani shrinks away. A banner reads 'The Beast yelled, and I became smaller and smaller' above Try Again and Nightmare Selection prompts, inside a torn red frame.

Loading tip: "Look up! A Sentinel's shot. The Beast will follow." It always follows. That's the deal. This time, while the fireworks fell, I ate a mushroom and watched from the sky as it arrived, investigated, found nothing, and went back to sleep. #indiedev #indiegames

Two ways to be above the Beast. A mushroom, eaten where it grew: you rise, and it can't perceive you at all. Or vines, grown mid-chase and climbed: it knows exactly where you are, and screams about it. Either way, coming back down is your decision. #screenshotsaturday

Seen from high above a sunlit cemetery of monolithic headstones: Rani floats in mid-air, shimmering head to toe in prismatic color, while the Beast roams the grass far below. On-screen text reads 'Enjoy levity' above a 'Back to earth' prompt.

From the top of a wall in hard daylight: Rani looks down into the Beast's Quarters, where the Beast rears up and screams at her; two cats stand on the flagstones near its cages.

Video description (forgot the alt-text 😅): Thirty-second gameplay teaser. Rani is caught by the Beast, refuses the help menu's offer, then outsmarts it — invisibility, a beer-puddle trap — and rides an elevator out with cats, ending on a high-score screen and the October 27 release date.

The teaser is up. Thirty seconds, all in-engine: the Beast catches you, the game offers help, you refuse it, and the refusal is what the scoreboard rewards. Sound on — the score is played live on Moog synthesizers. Launching October 27. #indiedev

The Beast Awoke to Eat Your Darlings. A horror game you outsmart, not survive — the Beast runs on rules you can learn, the cats need saving, and dying only makes the game hand you more tools. Made by one person. Launching October 27. #screenshotsaturday #indiedev

A sunlit school park. Rani leads a line of calico cats down a path while the Beast charges through a gate behind them.

A bright daylight cemetery of oversized leaning headstones. A cat-meter in the corner shows two cats already eaten.

A death screen. The Beast towers against a blinding daylight sky. Text: ‘The Beast yelled, and I became smaller and smaller.’

A narrow sun-blasted corridor. Rani walks with two cats past a giant human skull lying on the ground.
