Saskatoon does not have enough supportive, transitional, or affordable units available to house everyone currently living on our streets.

It's a violation of the enshrined right to adequate housing for municipalities to dismantle encampments if there is no better alternative for the residents to be moved into. If governments want fewer encampments, they need to create more housing.

Pushing for solutions that address those root causes, alongside adequate funding for the services that keep people alive in the meantime, is how we create lasting change. We need to eradicate these issues, not just move them to the next block.

The real root causes of the crises in our communities are increasing wealth inequality, a toxic drug supply, ongoing colonial harms, and wholly inadequate systems of healthcare, housing, and social support — not harm reduction services like Prairie Harm Reduction.

A wealth tax for people with net assets over $25 million (0.1% of Canadians) would collect $40 billion PER YEAR which could then be used to properly fund public services like healthcare and key sectors like housing. Thank you to @policyalternatives.ca for this reporting.

We have more renters than ever before and our gov'ts aren't introducing proper regulations to protect them or investing enough in non-market housing. Leaving people to rely on private landlords and corps for their housing -- subjected to racism, classism, unsafe conditions, and unaffordable prices.

Is housing really a priority when Canada's federal budget looks like this?? The poor little housing hedgehog at $1.6 billion and Old Age Security at $28.3 billion (20% of which goes to seniors with household incomes above $100K). Budgets are a statement of values. action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas
