Dödis (not the actual title) is starting to look like a comic now, so I thought I’d share some not-super-serious stuff that should (🤞) look a bit more polished when it’s done. I’ll try to keep this thread as spoiler-free as possible, and will add to it if I remember.😅 #comic #sketches #WIP

Suomaat by Tuoni Myllylä and Sari Sariola 🐈‍⬛ Another library find and one I'd seen before but hadn't had a chance to read before now. A fun, pacy romp through a house full of ghosts past and present, and the surrounding marshes with an Eldritch twist, setting up the pieces for a longer narrative.

Kuinka Valloiting Ranskan by Ville Ranta 🇫🇷 After the last comic, I stumbled upon another by the same artist through the library's e-book service and figured I'd give it a shot. It follows the thematic footsteps of Kuningas Menettää Päänsä, with significantly more confident strides this time.

This one is bizarre as a reading experience, and I’m not entirely sure what the intended message was supposed to be, or if it succeeded in that.

Many stories in this were delivered in interesting and notably different ways to one another, which is always nice to see in an anthology. I liked many, but my overall favourite was the folklore infused Myling by Amanda Casanellas and Yossa El Said. Evocative, atmospheric, and thrilling. ✨

Hunger of Horror: Comics from Oulu Nordic Comics Competition 2025 🫟 Picked this up with a few other random comics from the library. A fun read linguistically, my Swedish/Norwegian is VERY rusty, but it’s cool whenever I understand a sentence without immediately checking the English translation.

Sleep Token: Teeth of God by Huenito, Fabi Marques, Ryan Swanson, and Nathan Yocum 🌑 This is a bit of a weird one, not because the concept is weird (which it is in a fun Eldritchy end of days kind of way), but because the way it’s delivered feels like it’s trying to be multiple things all at once.

The comic book and box for Teeth of God, based on the music of Sleep Token laying on a moss green plush blanket. The otherwise shiny black cover features a kind of stag head and antlers formed of what could be bloody muscle and sinew or fleshy plantlike tendrils. The box for the book has an ornate dagger with gold and blood red detailing on a shiny black background.

Huojuva Torni by Tessa Astre, Aapo Kukko, and Niko-Petteri Niva 🎥 Even swinging wildly from genre to genre, I seem to keep stumbling on great comics featuring a haunting of some sort or other. This particular tower holds in it a lot more than meets the eye, heartfelt and heartbreaking all at once.

Voro: Kolmen Kuninkaan Aarre by Janne Kukkonen 🏹 I have no recollection of where or when I picked this up, but I can safely say I totally misjudged this book by its cover. A dark-ish rogue-centric fantasy full of blood, horror, and consequences. Joyous, exciting, and hard-hitting all at once.

Harukoma by Irie Aki [ original title: 春駒 by 入江亜季 ] 🗡️ I stumbled upon this manga while looking for something else last night and found myself still thinking about how effective it was in packing so much world and story into just 28 pages. Less is more in this case - swift, stabby, satisfying.
