Pringle @quincypringle.com · 14/08/2026Yeah it's pretty tough, thankfully there are some difficulty options in the config menu that help a lot 010

Pringle @quincypringle.com · 13/06/2026Amused by this note I found while sorting through stuff left from my great-uncle. I'd like to imagine somebody saw this on his desk with zero context 0111
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026It's flawed and often unfocused, but still a good time. I just wish I liked it a little more than I did. I'll be back for NG+ at some point. I hope it sells well and I'm looking forward to see what happens next with Yacht Club. 060
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026I tend to nitpick games I like more than ones I dislike. So I'll finish by saying I really did like Mina, and if you enjoy action platformers, Castlevania, Fromsoft, and the presentation of the GBC Zelda games, then there is a good chance you'll like it too. 150
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026I could have seen them do something like, 3 dungeons are available at the start, then after you finish those 3 more unlock. That way you can keep much of the openness while also having more of an intentional difficulty curve. There are tradeoffs with this idea obviously. 150
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026While I appreciate the pros of an open-ended approach like this, in execution it almost feels like abdicating your responsibility as a designer. The ability to tackle dungeons in any order compounds with this- you'll almost certainly come across one when you're far stronger than the threats inside. 150
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026The balancing feels far too reliant on player self-selection. I don't like having to police my own play by intentionally forgoing upgrades/doing optional challenges/ignoring stuff/etc on a first playthrough. Again to be clear I don't mean the settings menu with the optional modifiers. 150
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026I appreciate the choice of having in-game mechanics you can opt into to make things easier (not the options you can enable, I mean like certain trinkets/upgrades) but even avoiding those, it gets almost mindless at times compared to the deliberate, very intentional play style you need at the start. 150
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026Ultimately, my biggest gripe with the game is its very strange difficulty curve. If you just play the game normally and upgrade as you go, you just get SO strong and the dungeons become really easy. It starts off in a really sweet spot with its challenge level but gradually just falls off. 150
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026While I wasn't expecting that, I was very impressed by the game's earnest difficulty and focus on action. I really like action games! So it was a very pleasant surprise for me, and I immensely enjoyed the first few hours I played. But the longer I played, the less satisfied I became. 150
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026This isn't criticism but for whatever reason, I was going into this expecting a lot more Zelda influence than there turned out to be. Mina is a very intense action game with platform challenges and linear-ish levels branching from an open hub. Puzzles are basic and more focus is placed on traversal. 150
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026There is a lot to like about the game. The world is incredibly dense with secrets, level design does a great job teaching the player, and the limited screen space is utilized remarkably well. Music is fantastic. The weapons are fun and they do so much with the central digging mechanic. 170
Pringle @quincypringle.com · 01/06/2026Beat Mina the Hollower! I was very impressed by it at the start, but the closer I got to the end, the more its issues stood out to me. Worth a playthrough if you like action-platformers and/or Fromsoft games. If you just want something slower paced/puzzle oriented like Zelda, this game is not that. 291
