Taehyung steps closer. Still holding Jeongguk’s hands. Rubbing circles into his wrists, like he would to scent someone, to soothe them. It could feel so good, if Jeongguk was different. Would it be electric again, life-changing?

“It’s just another part of the body, right?” Taehyung says. He lifts one of Jeongguk’s hands to his mouth. Limply, Jeongguk lets him. Tries not to shiver as Taehyung presses a kiss to the spot where his veins shine blue through the skin. A shaky exhale comes out, unbidden. “It’ll be like this, just nicer, Guk-ah. Real nice. Talks to everyone but Jeongguk. Savors the scowl that’s steady in his peripheral vision. Tongue nudging cheek, an obvious tell. Anger, on Jeongguk, is jagged and pink. His lips, pursed with insult. His neck. How low does the blush go?

Soon it’s ten thirty. The puppy pile of admirers thinning. Draining the dregs of coke from his cup, Taehyung walks up to Jeongguk.

"About that interview," he drawls. All of Jeongguk perks up, wide-eyed and straight-spined and obedient, though Taehyung hasn't yet given him an order to follow. Funny how his anger seems to have mellowed out into desperation. It's hard to believe that this is the man who wrote that scathing review. "Can we do it in my hotel room?"

Taehyung hugs her. He's broader than her, and his leather jacket creaks as it presses against her sequined dress. Did he call her that night? They would make a gorgeous couple. If Jeongguk saw them in public, he'd assume they were famous even if he didn't know their faces.

Still, despite his inadequacy, Jeongguk imagines himself in her place. Taehyung's phantom touch wraps around his waist. With the leather jacket on, he's probably broader than Jeongguk, too. Maybe he'd disappear behind Taehyung's silhouette the way this woman does. The fantasy is disorienting. He downed the first drink too quickly. He's prone to forgetting his edges when he's drunk. What he is and isn't allowed to want.

What does he have to do for Taehyung to touch him like that? To touch him at all?

"Thank you," Taehyung says tersely. "Let’s get to the part where you explain what all this is about."

A half-shrug and a sigh is Yoongi's response. "I'm doing a favor for a friend."

"What friend?" Jeongguk asks. His voice is as sharp as Taehyung feels. Constant vigilance has them both whittled down to their most cutting parts.

"Doesn't matter."

"It really does," Taehyung says with force.

The look Yoongi fixes him with is fierce. With every moment of sustained eye contract, it hardens, until finally, Yoongi chuckles derisively. "I think I've done enough for you. You don't even know the kind of situation I got myself into by taking you here." For a tense moment, no one speaks. Jeongguk stiffens next to Taehyung, his shoulder going rigid where he leans against him, like he's about to say something.

Before he gets to it, Yoongi deflates. The hard line of his shoulders softens. "There’s a first aid kit in the trunk."

Where to even begin? At the most shameful part? Which would that even be? Everything he's ever done runs white-hot down his back. Jeongguk has been rubbing the bottle of beer like a stress toy for so long that the pulped label has transferred entirely to his palm, where it sticks to the skin in tacky little balls.

"I wasn't into her," Jeongguk mumbles. The need to say more--*or any woman*-- pinches the back of his neck, equal parts sure that Taehyung already knows and that he'll be appalled. How these two things match, he doesn't know.

it's Wednesday somewhere & in honor of hitting 20k on this wip, here's my #wipwednesday! once again featuring rockstar!tae and writer!jk bc they're always on my mind.

In this picture, Taehyung’s hair appears to be dry. It must have been taken late into the night, when their bodies had grown warm again and they, too, had warmed up to each other. Taehyung is bent forward, his shirt bunching against the edge of the table. All that heavy focus Jeongguk is usually so intimidated by is directed at him. On the other side of the table, the picture freezes Jeongguk in the middle of saying something. He doesn’t remember what he said but both his hands are raised to collarbone-level, frozen in some sort of squeezing gesture.

They’re both smiling. He can see how someone could project romance onto this.
