Trying to do some research on a new VR headset (because I know someone with a Valve Frame and he wasn't impressed) and boy I'm seeing the advantage of the Frame now: it just works. (Okay, questioning the mic.)

Did some more work and I think I'm mechanically happy. I dropped a lot of the magic stuff because it seemed to go against the nature of "the Weave" and how even unnatural creatures interact with it. A summoned demon, for instance, will initially cause a reaction as the Weave tries to fix things.

Read through the Travel section (glad I did) while also nearly finished with some homebrew. Also started working on cutting the core rulebook into smaller PDFs after remembering that Windows 11 can save print jobs to new PDFs. Also going through the setting.

Woo! More thoughts! I've been slowly chewing through The Broken Empires, rereading some sections as well, while taking notes, which is helping me. I have other stuff going on, so this has been a slow process.

I just realized that Pokopia might be a good litmus test for measuring what kind of nerd someone is on a specific scale. Some time ago, I read a post that I can't help but notice (though I have issues with the conclusion.) The main premise is that nerds can be separated into two groups:

Fun conversation I had with a D&D friend: I was explaining how the magic system works from memory and, very quickly, he came up with joke spells with specific situations while I explained how that would work. It was pretty easy to GM and he seemed to do well in wiggling through RAW rules.

I've read through some of the book and have been forming some thoughts. These are just from reading, not actual play (which I think the magic system would need a proper play to form a complete opinion,) so take these with a grain of salt.

Blarg, another rant. Though this one is about my writing. I think I'm going through a mid-life crisis with it. My current "main" project is a story that took forever to write, edit, and now I'm back to the planning phase because I hated the first idea. And I'm feeling the drag on it.

Yeah, shading helps. Not sure I did a great job, but it's helping. Thinking the left ear (to the viewer) needs to be shaded down the side and maybe go all the way down the right ear. The inside of the blanket is still a WIP.

Randomly had the idea to try and pick up on drawing. Going from the beginning and starting with fundamentals, though I'm a bit at a lost of how to properly practice so trying a draw over for a little fun. First image is a WIP while the second is my reference.

The Umbreon itself is drawn while the blanket has vague lines, but otherwise isn't drawn in.Picture of an Umbreon plushie with a patterned blanket wrapped around it with its head sticking out. Hold up, Quiet has another solo #ttrpg idea. Surely THIS one will stick. Okay, in fairness, I have made one major change: I'm using Dragon's Dogma's story as scaffolding for the system. It is a basic fantasy hero's quest that I can break away from as needed. So setting is not blocking me.

For reasons, I've created a character sheet based off of my VRC husky avatar and have been trying to get the colors just right (the model has preshading on it.) Do artists obsess over the right colors? I was fighting between F0F0F0 and F5F5F5 for the white despite that I can't see the difference.

Blarg, I really need this job search to wrap up so I don't have to dance around questions about future plans and I don't feel sick about spending money for non-essential things. (Joys about being secretive with stuff because you think some people will make a mountain out of an anthill.)

#rant I'm at the point where I want to get rid of my smart watch. I wear a Google watch (2nd gen?) to bed to track my sleep for Pokemon Sleep. Well, right in the middle of an event, it failed to capture any sleep data despite that it was a bit snug and I put it on sleep mode.

Got "Fox Curbio's Floating Bookshop." Still working through the first day but me basically making my character from the premise alone, the system weirdly hooking up well with my PC*, and lucky draws is already giving me the magical solo TTRPG feeling where it seems almost intentional. So good start.

In the long process of questioning again if I'm aromantic, I think I discovered something that is proving to be quite aggravating. First, in terms of being aromantic, I've come to "unlikely but not enough strong evidence to be sure." There's way too many issues to pull apart here.

So a bit of a question for the #TTRPG community, mainly for me to get a reality check: in a group game, is it important for you to like the other PCs or is it enough for them to not be disruptive? Let's assume the player behind the character has good table manners and is trying to play the campaign.

Working on a VRChat avatar that switches between my husky and Umbreon model. Using Poi's dissolve, I've noticed it can do work around UV tiles, so I've been learning how to use that and pushing through mistakes. Turns out, the dissolve doesn't slowly discard the tiles, it just changes the texture...

"Hmm, let me take another look at the PF1e Bloodrager. Maybe with building around this 3rd party bloodline around kitsune, I could wrap my head around this class AAAND now I want to play a Bloodrager."

Something I'm still trying to get used to in this PF1e solo game: I'm free to homebrew stuff if I don't like it. Some context: I'm playing a Kineticist Kitsune and the optimizer in me is drawn towards Overwhelming Soul to get that nice synergy between race and class.

Had a code assessment test this morning. After the demo test (and experience from a previous session,) you could say I had a bit of a surprise.
A "what I expected; what I got" meme format. Title is "code assessment test." Under "what the demo was" is Arkveld from the Monster Hunter Wilds video game, a fairly difficult monster of the series that requires a good understanding of the mechanics to the game. Under "what I expected" is Fatalis from Monster Hunter: Iceborne, the final final boss of the game, the Black Flame that hates all life, requiring hunters all their skills to defeat. Under "what I got" is a picture of a white-tailed deer, an animal usually associated with real world hunting in the US at least.

Found a rule set for a Pathfinder 1e solo campaign and thus far, it is honestly okay. I'm just glad that I'm warming up to the OSR (or is it NSR here?) way of modifying rules as well as having figured out what I like about Pathfinder to begin with.

Okay, it kind of works? It used to be that the feet were going halfway up. (I also found that this world is really weird as said feet are clipping on something on the edge.) Still need to work on the movement, but we're figuring things out.

So a weird Android programming mystery for me from last night. Okay, first, some context. I've been making a Wanderhome companion app for Android for a while now and have been using it. It still needs work, but I would say it is in a very usable state.

Quiet @quiethusky.bsky.social · 27/01/2026
Mind: Hey, did you know you can use Pokemon in Wanderhome? There's no problem with it if you play solo. So armed with that information and something that crossed my mind this morning, I'm getting another itch to play.

Well shoot. I suddenly started poking at a solo TTRPG idea and I think I have something going, but some of the decisions feel mean. General premise is that, after a freak accident, you become an android and have to deal with the issues from that.

So I'm now aware of the Ker Nethalas and Riftbreakers 2e #ttrpg systems and I wish I've heard of them sooner. Both are solo systems (with group play options) that have a bit of crunch to them. They're not exactly perfect (somewhat limited "class" options,) but they look fun to me.

Woo! I finally tested this solo PF2e idea! Sort of. I made a few changes: -Party of 2 (dual classing each) -No bonus HP -PCs use both classes back-to-back, just limited to their class' abilities -Encounters are built as if a party of 4. It looks like it can work, there is just some weird stuff.

For a job interview, got a coding assessment. It's time and monitored like crazy, so working under pressure. Got one problem that's failing due to the code taking too long. Try to make it more efficient, but fail. Test ends, not happy with the result. Get up for a drink: realize a faster solution.

Apparently the giant Umbreon plushie from the Pokemon Center got delayed to March of next year. Given how things have been going for me and that I can't change the shipping address, there is a possibility that I won't be getting it...

I've had 3 tech recruiters in a span of a week reaching out about a possible position. While two are contracts and one might be the same position as another, it has been a change of pace with one actually looking promising. Hopefully this is a sign that the tech industry is healing.

So good news and bad news. Good news: I believe I've now gotten under 9 mins. on the Nürburgring in ACC despite constant mistakes thanks to VR. Bad news: guess what the preview screen, which was recorded, showed? Sure as heck not what I was looking at. So I get to figure this out.

So due to (a lack of) work, I might be moving to a new city. And since an apartment doesn't seem appealing for various reasons, I've been looking at houses and learning what I probably like. I also need to go through my stuff and figure out what to get rid of and how.

Random rant. I discovered a tiny room in VRChat called Seclusion that has little cubbyholes inside the wall next to the bed. I loved this design (as well as a few other details) and went down a rabbit hole over designing a house and what I would love to see. Problem: life could change for me.

At some point, I should look into the Ship of #TTRPG Theseus and where the line is drawn because I'm having a habit now of doing heavy homebrewing for systems I play and I kind of wonder if they could be considered new systems or not.

Just realized that if I ever get to play Pathfinder "Season of Ghosts" again, after warning the GM that I know what happens, I can basically play THE medicine seller. (Okay, more precisely, a loose inspiration from him because he's really not a good character for a group game.)

Finished the novel "The Island of Doctor Moreau" due to starting a personal project loosely based off of it. Pretty easy read and appreciate the ending basically being "and this is why the curtains are blue," but definitely not what I've been led to believe based off of limited references.

Sorry, my mind has been jumping around and I think I figured out the clues for the Golden Door puzzle for some #ttrpg that I want to run someday. Basically, very early on, show the players a golden door that just doesn't belong in a dungeon but nothing they can do gets them in.

So, um, on the #ACC 'Ring thing I'm doing, I think I discovered something weird. My best lap with a flatscreen is a 9:02.9 which included a lap prior to have a quicker launch. With VR, I did a 9:02.7. On the first lap. Me thinks I need to race in VR more.

Coping with the fact that I can't go to #Furality this year (whose theme I absolutely love) by... working on the #furry #VRChat avatar I would have used. That sounds like a good way to deal with it, right?
Picture of a husky VRChat avatar in a dreamy field. He is wearing a plain, blue t-shirt, shorts, a kitsune mask on his head, shortened arm warmers, and shortened leggings. The warmers have a diamond pattern that repeat despite his left arm pulled up. The leggings also show constellations in a random pattern underneath. There are two gold rings around his right leg, which are just there to mirror the identical golden rings on his left arm, which actually do represent something but the author doesn't feel like explaining.Picture of a husky VRChat avatar in a star-filled night out in a tall, grassy field. Fear me, I now have a plush I can drop in worlds. But no, seriously, that ended up being extremely easy. #VRChat #furry
