Infuriates me how the tennis world continues to act like none of this shit happened #usopen www.marieclaire.com.au/news/advocac...
"We always had fights out of nowhere. I wrote on Instagram that he tried to suffocate me with a pillow, twisted my arms. I tried to run out of the room several times, but he didn't let me," she explained.
After managing to break free and hiding elsewhere in the hotel, Sharypova recalled Zverev (who she refers to by his moniker,
Sasha) finding her and trying to convince her to return to the room.
"I was scared and I wanted to run away.
But Sasha pushed me into the wall and said that nothing would happen to him for this.
And that no one would care about me, no matter what he did to me."Sharypova alleged that it was there that Zverev punched her in the face, causing her to feel so isolated and distraught that she attempted to take her own life by injecting herself with insulin.
"I injected it, and I wasn't scared; I just wanted to leave in some way, because I can't stand it anymore," she told Rothenberg.
In October 2023, Zverev was forced to deny claims of "physically abusing and damaging the health" of his ex-partner and mother to his young child, Brenda Patea.
The lawsuit, filed in Germany, outlined an incident that occurred in May 2020 where following a "heated argument" Zverev pushed Patea against a wall and strangled her with both hands.
The incident, as reported in The Guardian, caused Patea to have "difficulty swallowing
and breathing for several days afterwards."

Sharing this letter from the Guardian because I think it makes a good point and also because I seemed to be in the minority when I thought that Pike’s original rant was a load of self-absorbed, entitled BS www.theguardian.com/stage/2026/j...
Further to Nadia Khomami's piece on the use of phones in theatres (6 June) and Rosamund Pike's lecture from the stage (1 June), while agreeing with the general drift, I'd like to sound a note of caution. Some of us wear hearing aids that are controlled by Bluetooth.
Sometimes we need to adjust the settings to properly hear what the hell is going on. From the vantage of the stage, it probably looks like we're texting. Actors would need the eyesight of a sparrowhawk to tell the difference. Meanwhile, I'm dialling up assistance to aid full immersion in the experience.

“Still single? You need to put yourself out there!” Out there:
A section of the ‘Hell’ panel of Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights. There’s a lot going on, so I’m going to paste the description from Wikipedia: The focal point of the scene is the "Tree-Man," whose cavernous torso is supported by what could be contorted arms or rotting tree trunks. His head supports a disk populated by demons and victims parading around a huge set of bagpipes—often used as a dual sexual symbol[42]—reminiscent of human scrotum and penis. The tree-man's torso is formed from a broken eggshell, and the supporting trunk has thornlike branches which pierce the fragile body. A grey figure in a hood bearing an arrow jammed between his buttocks climbs a ladder into the tree-man's central cavity, where nude men sit in a tavern-like setting. The tree-man gazes outwards beyond the viewer, his conspiratorial expression a mix of wistfulness and resignation.[47] Belting proposed that the tree-man's face is a self-portrait, citing the figure's "expression of irony and the slightly sideways gaze [which would] then constitute the signature of an artist who claimed a bizarre pictorial world for his own personal imagination".[42] Many elements in the panel incorporate earlier iconographical conventions depicting hell. However, Bosch is innovative in that he describes hell not as a fantastical place but as a realistic world containing many elements from day-to-day human life.[43]

A number of parents have contacted me from Cheslyn Hay Academy concerning a situation which has garnered significant online attention.
I am clear that schools must be a place for education and not "diversity box ticking exercises."
I have written to the Headteacher to ask for an urgent meeting.

Dear Mrs Pritchard,
1 am writing to express my concern regarding reports that the school has instructed pupils to address a teacher as MX,' and has taken steps to remove children from educational classes in order to 'teach pronouns.'
A vast number of constituents have been in touch to share their anger at this decision.
Whilst I understand that it is important to be aware of sensitives such as this, I strongly believe a school's main priority should be academic rather than 'diversity box ticking exercises.
Parents have also reported to me that they are being denied the opportunity to speak with you regarding this and that reception are fielding complaints instead. With the significant public interest in this matter, I believe that parents should be able to speak directly with you and have confidence that the school's leadership has the best interests of their children at heart.
I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss this important matter in further detail, and hope that this is something you will agree to as a matter of urgency.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Warwickshire County Council leader George Finch, 19, has hit out at what he believes is
"ageist" criticism

Simon Gilbert
BBC Political Reporter, Coventry and Warwickshire

George Finch had planned to be at university studying to become a history teacher.
Instead, at the age of 19, he has become the youngest council leader in the UK, running Warwickshire County Council with a budget of £2bn.But leading a £2bn organisation is not a typical job for a 19-year-old, and Finch admitted he had had other plans.
"I wanted to be a history teacher. I loved history and I loved teaching but the problem was the curriculum, especially history.
Universities and colleges are a conveyor belt for socialist wokeism."
Finch said he had been inspired by Reform and former Conservative MP Lee Anderson, who has previously criticised educational establishments for what he perceives as teachers pushing "dog whistle divisive politics" on pupils. In his time as interim leader, Finch said he had used his new "influence" over education by calling Anjit Samra, CEO of Stowe Valley Multi-Academy Trust, to his office after a row over a union jack dress at Bilton School, in Rugby.
"I don't have the power to tell him what to do as he's an academy, but I do have that influence.
"I asked him simple, I said 'I would like to see, and I think it's in your best interests, if you have a school assembly on the importance of British culture'."In his time as interim leader, Finch said he had used his new "influence" over education by calling Anjit Samra, CEO of Stowe Valley Multi-Academy Trust, to his office after a row over a union jack dress at Bilton School, in Rugby.

Tell me you’ve never been a teacher in July without telling me you’ve never been a teacher in July
Guardian headline with photo of the writer

Opinion
France's eight weeks of summer holidays, or England's six? I've done both and know which one I prefer
Gillian HarveyDespite moaning that their French friends are already sunning themselves, my children have had fun during those "extra" two weeks at school. Lessons have been wound down and learning tied up. School plays have been performed, awards dished out, sports days (something they didn't experience in France) enjoyed. Classes have met their new teachers for September, and new schools have been visited. There's a sense of growing anticipation of the break ahead when teachers and pupils relax and (dare I say) enjoy each other's company. It's true that, in my experience, not a huge amount of learning occurs during this time. But that doesn't mean there isn't value in spending another fortnight in the classroom.
