Capitalism thrives where people don't know how to bake.

Today is Canada's Day of Truth and Reconciliation. It is not a day to celebrate. It is a day to listen. A day to recognize the costs of colonialism and capitalism.

Interesting. Trump closing the Kennedy Center sounds very reminiscent of the recent closing of Ontario's Science Centre. Is Trump taking lessons from Canadian politicians to get what he wants?

Americans like to think of their country as exceptional. The best economy, the most freedom, the place where anyone can make it if they work hard enough. It’s a powerful story, repeated so often it feels like the truth. But when you look at the data comparing the United States to Canada, a different picture emerges. On measure after measure of what makes a good society, Canada comes out ahead.

If this were to be promised in a global south country, it would be considered vote buying and would result in international rebuke.

Legitimate Policy: Universal cash transfers, subventions, or monthly pensions are legal because they are codified into permanent law. They are distributed based on universal criteria (like age or income level) and continue no matter who wins the election.

Vote Buying: When a candidate says, "You will only get this $5,000 if my party wins," it ceases to be a public policy. It becomes a conditional, partisan transaction designed to bypass institutional checks and balances.

"O Canada, we stand on guard for thee." These words have taken on new meaning for me this last year.

Donald Trump holding his fist out in an expression of power and domination, threatening Canada and the Canadian flag.

Labour Day was not established to celebrate the end if summer or another year of school. Labour Day celebrates workers, unions and the power of labour. Labour Day is not about the elite. Labour Day anti-Trump. Labour Day started in Canada. In Toronto. In ONTARIO.

Toronto is one of the most highly covered and studied cities in North America. Funny how that coverage makes people feel less safe than they are. Politicians capitalize on that feeling.

Brad Bradford, running for mayor, claims Toronto needs more police officers even though Toronto stats deny it.

E-bikes are legal in Toronto, like manual bikes. Neither on sidewalks. The size of the e-bike determines if it's allowed in bike lanes. But no enforcement. I have been yelled at (verbally) on a sidewalk by an e-bike rider because I was walking too slow and there was not enough room to get around.

I see e-scooters every day in Toronto, Ontario roads and sidewalks and park paths, zipping around without care for the danger they're creating, assuming drivers will stop. I know the law is difficult to enforce, but that shouldn't mean we don't try.

The US is now the primary exporter of emissions that drive climate change. Hardly something he should brag about. I wonder if he thinks the forest fires, heat waves and floods are worth it. He probably just turns up the AC and looks way. Maybe when Mar-a-Lago sinks into the Atlantic...
