Today’s news inspired me to enjoy a double bill of Black lesbian resistance films this evening, both advocating collective revolutionary truth against disinformation ❤️‍🔥✊🏾 #borninflames1983 #thewatermelonwoman1996

What’s “disgraceful” is that this is the BBC’s only coverage of 30,000+ people across the UK marching for trans rights.

1/ Easy & fun to scoff at this from the Telegraph, but sobering to remember that most of your straight, white, male colleagues, even those who profess to be progressive, may secretly believe that this is the truth of what is happening. Why? Because those of us who have

Clara has published some of her research on her blog in English and German. Dora Richter: lili-elbe.de/blog/2024/09... Hertha Wind: lili-elbe.de/blog/2024/09...
“Dora Richter making bobbin lace, Source: Wikipedia” - a woman wearing a short-sleeved blouse and a headband around her short-bobbed hair sits on a wooden chair as she works with her hands on a spool of material. “Von Hertha Wind selbst beschriftetes Foto” - a posed portrait of a woman with shoulder length hair parted on one side; she smiles and gazes towards something out of frame, wearing a dark dress with a light lace collar. Beneath the photo is some handwritten text.

1/ Statement from @austhistassoc.bsky.social on the unconscionable decision by Universities Australia to unilaterally adopt a definition of antisemitism that unlike IHRA includes critiques of Zionism across 39 universities, following a recommendation by a joint parliamentary committee. Full text 👇

Australian Historical Association Statement on Universities Australia's Definition of
Antisemitism
The Australian Historical Association is staunchly opposed to antisemitism and all forms of discriminatory hate speech and action. We advocate for the ability of historians to produce excellent and ethical historical research, free from discrimination, vilification and the infringement of academic freedom (including direct political interference).
As such, the AHA is concerned that a proposed and enforceable Universities Australia definition of antisemitism moves beyond the matter of combatting hate speech and places new limits on scholarly scrutiny and criticism of Israel and Zionism by Australian academics. Such rules do not exist in relation to other nation states, faiths or political movements. The AHA is concerned that this new definition of antisemitism could restrict academic freedom, with negative impacts on teaching and research by historians in Australian universities.

Has your university created a central student services “hub” after sacking department-based admin & services staff in a restructure? If so, post a pic below. 👇 At Uni of Melbourne’s “Stop 1” students take a # to speak with lanyard-clad casualised workers (often students). Pics: unimelb website

Slow clap to the German political class (and frankly the entire eligible electorate) for enabling & emboldening literal fascists. Lovely.

1/3—April 1945: Soviet tanks roll through Berlin, but it’s the graffiti on the wall of the grocery store in the background that makes this picture really interesting.
Two people look out from inside a military tank as it rolls past a low building labelled “Kaffee / Wilhelm [not visible] / Butter”. Smoke lingers in the air. The street is muddy. Another tank is just out of shot. There is a long row of residential apartment buildings in the far background.
