A lot of that money was my own wealth, from before I even started in journalism.
My events almost never happen. It’s protests, or sabotage from Republican competitors or social media outcries. Every time, it costs me tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. And when I get dumped from conferences, BARELY ANYONE makes a sound about it — not my fellow conservative media figures and not even, in many cases, you guys. When was the last time any of you protested in the street at the treatment meted out to me or Pamela Gellar or Mike Cernovich or Alex Jones?
I have repeatedly put myself in harm’s way in service of American values. My annual security bill amounts to hundreds of thousands of dollars — just so my husband and I don’t get killed going for sushi. I have to make that money somehow just to stay afloat, and that doesn’t scratch the surface of staff costs, insurance, your insane American taxes.
I’ve fought bitterly and endlessly for freedom in a country I don’t even belong to — not for my benefit, but for yours. I have been betrayed and abandoned by everyone who ever called themselves my friend, with a small handful of notable exceptions. I was a significant factor in Donald Trump getting elected, for which I have received zero credit. I almost single-handedly ignited the current debate about free speech on campus and NO ONE has ever matched my ability to draw attention to these issues.
For my trouble, I have lost everything standing up for the truth in America, spent all my savings, destroyed all my friendships, and ruined my whole life. At some point, you realize it’s occasionally better to spend the money on crabs and cocktails. If anyone has a problem with that, then frankly they can go fuck themselves.

These exhortations have grown increasingly nebulous over the span of her career – which is just as well, as her work on specific earthly political concerns has historically been inconsistent. As much as she is praised for her support of oppressed communities, her understanding of such communities is sometimes disappointingly simplistic.
For example, black people make several appearances in Kusama’s 2002 autobiography as exotic or primitive beings. She breathlessly marvels at “[black people’s] distinctive smell” and “animalistic sex techniques.” She recalls using a naked black man in her own performance art, apparently for visual effect, describing his lips and genitals in detail. She also laments that the area in Greenwich Village where she used to live has turned into a “slum,” where real estate prices are “falling by $5 a day” because “black people are shooting each other out front” (this sentence is only in her original Japanese text – it was deleted from the English translation, curiously). And though her work as a poet and novelist is less known than her visual work, these stereotypical themes also appear in her short story “The Hustler’s Grotto of Christopher Street,” which features a young black male prostitute who is an impulsive drug addict.

The confusion about the "two blades of a scissor" is so funny to me.
Because it only makes sense if you're not Iranian and you have no interest in understanding how imperialist aggression and state oppression is experienced by people in Iran.
You act outraged at the analogy because you read it as a comparison between two states and "which one is worse"
'But if you think of what
people who experience both simultaneously experience, and the landscape they actually have to navigate, it makes sense.
Iranians live in Iran. It's IR cops that can arrest and kill them. It's the IR judicial system that will sentence them. It's IR-run jails and prisons they'll be put in. It's the IR political system that rules over them, and the IR laws they must follow.
They're also bombed by US and Israel, and feel the constriction of the economic sanctions around their necks. But these are not experienced as opposing forces to "align with"
They're not choices to evaluate for
their futures. They're simultaneous realities. Blades of a scissor.
And these forms of violence, contrary to the beliefs of both pro-oppression and pro-imperialism "sides" don't happen to different people or different demographics. They happen to the same people.

Postdocs and research staff at the University of Washington are bargaining for a new contract this summer. To address the worsening conditions for transgender people across the country, we proposed a memorandum of understanding to:
Improve data privacy for anyone (regardless of identity) changing their name, and to wave their ID card replacement fee
Provide sensitivity training for supervisors of trans workers, to prevent harassment. The equity survey jointly administered by UW and UAW 4121 shows that transgender people at UW are harassed 3x more than cisgender people [1].
Secure a fund to support costs of gender transition.
Admin has rejected our proposal twice now, each time citing concerns we’ve already addressed. When pressed to explain his reservations, admin’s lead negotiator said: “I am not speaking in terms of facts.” “I haven’t been advised or done any research.” How are we supposed to work with that?
University of Washington admin pride themselves on being part of a trans friendly institution. At the ceremonial pride flag raising, they honored the recently murdered trans girl and UW student Juniper Blessing with a new scholarship [2]. But when asked to simply waive the costs of replacing an ID card for anyone, cis or trans, who changes their name, they moan that we’re asking for “special treatment” and fear-monger about the federal government. How do admin really feel about the queer community? Seattle is a sanctuary city for many trans people fleeing violence from across the country.
