We did it!* One of my teams designed and 3D printed a drinking water treatment plant! It's almost safe enough to drink? The mixing vessels leaked so we used beakers... so it wasn't worth disinfecting to drink. But coagulation, flocculation, and filtration were fantastic! *mostly. Leaky mess.

Finally got my dissertation artwork tattooed (art by @fsantoriello.bsky.social) They're super adorable, based on the Ramones and the colors are the seasons since my work was seasonal changed in wastewater microbiome (red-summer, orange-fall, blue-winter spring-green)

we did a rarefaction curve of a bag of jelly belly jelly beans with 49 flavors to figure out how many jelly beans we would need to randomly sample to get all flavors... it was a delicious experiment.

The goal was ambitious: design and build a 3D printable drinking water treatment plant so I could have 1 cup of clean water from the nearby river. We didn't quite get to "safe" water quality levels but our effort was fantastic!

I haven't posted here in ages... so here are some updates! Harper passed away several months ago after several seizures and neurological issues. A few months later I adopted Ava! Ava is a husky who lovvvves everyone! She comes to work with me every day and my students adore her!

Haven't posted here in ages but I know some friends are only here... Harper has been having seizures. Shes on anti-seizure meds but its a small fix to likely brain disease. Shes lost a little vision and coordination, but otherwise healthy and seems like her usual floofy self. 12 years old is hard.

what did you do this weekend? I bought bed risers but realized they didn’t fit all of my bed frames legs so I 3D printed holders to secure the larger legs but that lifted up all the legs so the rest needed custom mini-risers in the regular risers. Why? Cause my dog wants to sleep under the bed.
