also I understand the urge to make something more standalone but the time to do that was control 1. a game where alan wake shows up in the main story. as of alan wake 2 especially they're too tied together to be separated without the game feeling incomplete and frustrating

I think it's like, the world design and visuals are still extremely unique but the writing is straightforward to the point of overexplaining when remedyverse games really benefitted strongly from having a lot of ambiguity.

it sounds insane to say control resonant feels too conventional but I do agree with the reveiwers who say that in comparison to other remedyverse games. not as bad as metal gear without kojima but sam lake being gone really made it lose some of the sauce that makes their games so unique
