This seems like a weird way to nerf Nashi. It was the only keyword that felt connected with his main ability. Why not get rid of Menace, Ward, or the 4/4 statline? None of these are important to what he does and just feel like "why does he get that too? It's not like he needs it!"

One of crypto's main use cases is crime. ...But in the face of an evil authoritarian government, crime is on rare occasions good. The PRC trying to limit crypto for a reason, and it's not the same reason as libs.

Iran shot more than thirty thousand protesters this year over the course of a few days. Despite everything the US has done and threatened to do, Iran does not have the moral high ground.

Algorithmic feeds were a mistake. I prefer my slop in a chronological feed, where I can feel properly shamed for reopening the tab after closing it because there's still nothing new, as the lord intended.

Yes, most Jewish Israelis subscribe to the idea that Israel should continue to exist, which is what they mean when they say they support Zionism.

Isn't that really hurtful to investment (and therefore long-term growth, to the point where you might have less tax revenue in the future)?

qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
Are there any good, effective ways to tax the ultra-rich? (Other than our lord and saviour the LVT, which doesn't really apply to most rich people.) Capital gains tax discourages investment, they don't earn much income, corporate tax has bad tax incidence (mostly paid by employees/consumers).

Israel runs a conscript military; people aren't running off (or sending their kids off) to die for shits and giggles. There are lots of good criticisms of the IDF, but if your starting position is that Israel wants to genocide and annex the entire Middle East then you're not ready for that convo.

qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
It only means that in anti-Zionist circles. As for approving of what Netanyahu is doing, he's currently at net -8% approval. More broadly, Israelis support invasions because they believe that other countries will attack them, not because of any Greater Israel nonsense.

qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
The idea that Zionism is inherently genocidal, or requires Israel to acquire all the territory of Mandatory Palestine, or requires dropkicking every Palestinian child, is a recent invention. It's certainly not something 99% of self-described Zionists ascribe to.
130
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
To the vast majority if people, Zionism has always meant a majority-Jewish area where Jews couldn't get kicked out. After the establishment of Israel, that was accomplished, and Zionism simply meant it continuing to exist. That's the definition Carney is clearly using.

qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 03/06/2026
Only if you use a definition of genocide so broad that the word becomes pointless because practically every country would be actively engaging in genocide. ...Which suits the interest of the autocracies funding these groups. They want words like "genocide" and "ethnic cleansing" to be meaningless.

qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
None of that is responsive to what I wrote. Bigotry isn't justified by a "geopolitical catalyst".
130
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
The vast majority of religious Jews, including the vast majority of Orthodox Jews, are Zionist. The Neturei-Karta-like view that Israel prevents the Messiah from returning is an extremely fringe view within Judaism. This is like Westboro Baptist Church claiming to speak for all Christians.

qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
You'd never use this logic in other contexts. If a child abusing sex cult was uncovered in Ghana, and as a result Canadians started referring to random black people as "child rapists", you'd never bring up "the geopolitical catalyst". The local bigotry would be treated as a local problem.

The term "antisemitism" was invented by a group of Jew-haters ("League of Antisemites") who wanted a more scientific sounding name for their hatred of Jews. It has never meant racism against other Semitic people. The term should be replaced, but it's not like Jews picked it, Jew-haters did.

Planets with no water either never had water or had an atmosphere too weak to hold it. AI isn't sending water to the shadow realm.

Apples are eaten by pedophiles, should we make them illegal too? You can ban sharing images of minors with their clothes stripped off without banning all of AI.
100
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
Potable water isn't infinite, like you pointed out it freshwater reserves replenish over time (not to mention desalination options, but Canada has so much fresh water it's not even needed). As for infrastructure, you can tax the data centres to pay for that, or make them build their own.
110
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
If that's your concern, what if Canada passed regulation requiring a closed loop system? Would that be enough?
210
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
Drinkable water isn't finite either. Freshwater basins regularly get replenished. Of course you can desalinate seawater as well, but Canada has so much freshwater that there's no need to do so.
100
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
Canada doesn't have a water shortage. Everyone can have enough water, plus have enough left over for data centres. That might mean new infrastructure to transport water, but taxing the data centres can let you build those while having extra left over for healthcare.
100
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
I'm not trying to sound smart, just pointing out it's silly to call water finite. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As long as you manage the supply (which Canada has plenty of), increasing demand is fine.
400
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
I don't disagree with anything in your first paragraph. Canada is not at the point that those limits are being met or exceeded, as long as you're not concentrating all the demand in one place.

That's not happening. Carney's job is to make the best of things as they are, not wishcast a world where AI didn't exist.

I don't disagree that water and potable water are two vastly different things; what does that have to do with what I said?
100
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
Slop factories can help fund the other stuff. It's not like the government is paying to build this, a (tax-paying) private company is.
100
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
I don't disagree AI has led to a lot of serious problems, but lobbying against data centres won't solve that because they'll just be built elsewhere.
100
qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
Going down the list: 1. Sure, but Canada hasn't hit anywhere near its supply limit. It's a small population with the most fresh water on earth. 2. The world population is expected to peak in the next few decades. 3. I agree, we should have more green energy, but that has little to do with this.

qudito.bsky.social @qudito.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
Water is only finite if you're disassembling it on a molecular level, which these data centres obviously aren't. Depending on the design of the data centre, the water gets released after it's used, evaporated, or recycled in a closed-loop system.
