A lone oak and the Milky Way. #BlueSkyArtShow #Lights #photography #astrophotography #milkyway #art #nightsky
Night landscape photograph. A single large oak tree stands in silhouette on the right, above a dark meadow and a line of trees on the horizon. The Milky Way cuts diagonally across the sky from the upper left down toward the tree, its bright dusty core glowing just behind the branches. Thousands of stars fill the rest of the sky.

Giant vortex #BlueSkyArtShow #Lights #photography #astrophotography #art #longexposure
Black and white long-exposure photograph taken from the forest floor looking straight up. Bare winter trees in silhouette radiate from the edges of the frame toward the center. Behind them, thousands of star trails form concentric arcs around a point near the top center, like a giant spinning vortex.

Undulating into sound. #BlueSkyArtShow #Undulating #photography
Close-up of an electric guitar, with the wooden fretboard and six strings running diagonally across the frame. The neck is sharply focused in the foreground while the blue and white guitar body fades into soft blur against a dark background.

NGC 2237 The Rosette Nebula (HSO) This is the first time I’ve created an astrophotograph using an HSO palette (Hydrogen-alpha/Sulphur/Oxygen). #astrophotography #astronomy #photography #processing #galaxy #art #space #science #PhotographersUnite @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social See more info ALT 👇
NGC 2237 The Rosette Nebula in HSO (Hydrogen-alpha/Sulphur/Oxygen). Astrophoto by Beatrice Heinze (Processing) and Telescope Live (Data).

It’s the first time I’ve tried Adam Block’s narrowband technique. Here's the link to his YouTube video if you'd like to try it yourself: https://youtu.be/td4Z4_fIQOE?si=g6EE8wNJS7xCFOg_

For this photo, I used the same data as in my version of the Rosette Nebula in an SHO palette, which I posted here on Bluesky in 2024. See link: https://bsky.app/profile/beatriceheinze.bsky.social/post/3le5xydwgks2l

That’s one of the fun things about astrophotography: you can get creative with different color palettes.

As for software, I used PixInsight to stack and process the data.

Telescope: ASA 500N, a 50-cm F3.6 corrected Newtonian telescope

Location: El Sauce Observatory, Rio Hurtado valley, Chile (Southern Hemisphere) => Bortle Class 1

Total exposure time: 3 hours

Clear Skies!

The colours of late summer in south West of France #BlueSkyArtShow #Summer #photography
A harvested field under a deep blue sky, with large round hay bales leading toward a small stone village in the distance. The foreground is softly isolated by a shallow depth of field.

The lake surface got still on the morning of 8/14, perfect for making a star trail image with reflections! The bright trails on the right are the Pleiades and Hyades, center trails from Perseus. The patch of short streaks are satellites glinting earthshine. There are a few meteors. #astrophotography
colorful star trails circle Polaris. the brighter ones are reflected in a lake. airplane, satellite, and meteor trails brekl the symmetry

Ho Chi Minh City, where chaos has its own traffic rules. Hundreds of trajectories, almost no apparent order, and somehow it flows. #BlueSkyArtShow #Chaos #photography
A busy intersection in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, crowded with motor scooters. Several riders sweep across the foreground while a dense stream of motorcycles fills the street behind them. Narrow, mismatched buildings rise above the traffic, packed with balconies, shop signs, awnings, air conditioners and overhead wires. The scene looks chaotic at first glance, yet the riders move through it with a striking sense of rhythm and coordination.

Chaos, organized by magnetism. Plasma twists, erupts and flows across the solar chromosphere, shaped by forces we can only see through the structures they create. Our star, caught in a restless moment. #BlueSkyArtShow #Chaos #photography [details in Alt-text]
Captured with a Sony A7S on a TS61EDPH, a 61 mm apochromatic refracting telescope, using a DayStar Quark Chromosphere. The Quark is a very narrow-band H-alpha solar filter centered on the hydrogen-alpha emission line at 656.28 nm, isolating light from the solar chromosphere and revealing filaments, plages and prominences that are largely invisible in ordinary white-light images.

The final image combines 500 short exposures, aligned, stacked and reconstructed with my own Python processing code based on torchMFBD, a PyTorch implementation of multi-frame blind deconvolution. MFBD uses information from many differently distorted frames to jointly estimate the underlying solar image and compensate for atmospheric seeing and optical blur.

The solar disk and the region outside the limb were processed separately: a restrained treatment preserves detail and contrast across the chromospheric surface, while a much stronger intensity stretch outside the disk reveals the far fainter prominences around the Sun's edge.

Just to give a sense of scale: Earth is shown here at the correct relative size beside the Sun. Prominences extend several Earth diameters above the solar limb. #SolarImaging #HAlpha #Astrophotography
Close-up H-alpha image of the Sun’s limb with a large solar prominence extending into space. A small image of Earth is placed beside it at the correct relative scale, showing how the prominence spans several Earth diameters. A label notes that the Sun’s diameter is approximately 109 times that of Earth.

Still refining my ultra-narrowband H-alpha solar imaging technique. 500 frames with a Sony A7S + TS61EDPH + Quark Chromosphere. I'm tuning my Python post-processing script around torchMFBD blind deconvolution (github.com/aasensio/tor...) #SolarImaging #HAlpha
Full-disk view of the Sun imaged in ultra-narrowband hydrogen-alpha light. The orange-red solar disk shows the dense, filamentary texture of the chromosphere across its entire surface, with several bright active regions and small dark filaments. Prominences extend beyond the limb, particularly on the left and lower-right edges. The image was produced from 500 frames captured with a Sony A7S, TS61EDPH refractor and Quark Chromosphere filter, then restored using torchMFBD deconvolution.

Yes, precisely the same problem! During the daytime it’s practically impossible to get a proper polar alignment. I had to recenter the Sun three or four times, and near maximum eclipse there wasn’t much left to use as a reference for alignment either.
