My muse! She was a very good model up until she hopped into my hair. #photography #bugs #bugsky #invertefest #grasshopper

A photograph of a grasshopper sitting on the head of a sunflower. She's yellow-green with black markings, and her segmented legs and the texture of her abdomen are easy to see. Her wing is torn, revealing her ear underneath.

Had a bit of art block until I went outside and saw the most beautiful grasshopper the other day. She was huge! I drew her as a dragon 💜🐉 #art #invertefest #bugs #bugsky #grasshopper #smaugust #dragon #sciart

A digital art piece of a draconic grasshopper on a sunflower leaf. She's facing away with her head tilted back to stare fiercely at the viewer with her mandibles parted threateningly. Black spines run down her head, back, and legs, and she has two sets of intimidating red horns on her head.
She might look just like a regular grasshopper at a glance if not for the fact that she has two extra pairs of legs. Her gossamer wings shimmer in the light, flecked with light like stars in the night sky.
Her scale-covered body is mostly golden yellow-green and black, speckled and striped with dark markings and accented with a vibrant crimson on her face, legs, and in a long stripe down her back and wings. Long, elegant orange and black striped antennae, curled at the ends, are poised and ready to sense danger.
She rests on a sunflower leaf, but her back legs look ready to spring at a moment's notice.

Bug detail shots! This took me 9 and a half hours according to clip studio paint. The plants are real species as well! Though foxgloves aren't native like the rest.

A closer shot of the digital art piece, showing off the two butterflies and the bumblebee in the foxgloves. In the bottom left, a hint of the southern purple mint moth's wing can be seen.
The hackberry emperor is yellow in the sunlight with brown markings and white spots, and the red admiral is a warm cinnamon brown with vibrant orange splashed on their wings and white spots.

A closer shot of the mayfly, their adorable little legs stretched towards the sun as they perch on the bent grass. The plantainleaf sedge is flowering, brown-green shoots with fluffy white tips.

A closer shot of the ladybug and the fox's eye. The v-marked lady beetle is sitting on a vibrant green leaf, their pretty red and black wingcase shining in the light. The fox's eye has lighter pink rimming the black slit of their pupil, and a hint of gold shimmers within the purple of their iris.

Might've finally designed a sona that feels like me! I really love them! 💜💜 There are 6 different species of bugs native to North America in this art piece! They're identified in the alt, but I'm curious if anyone can recognize them without it. #art #bugs #bugsky #inverts #sciart #furry #furryart

A digital art piece of a black-purple fox in a forest, surrounded by bugs and plants. They have vibrant purple eyes with black tanuki-like markings under them, small black horns tipped with gold, and a small pink scar on the left side of their forehead.

They're smiling softly at a southern purple mint moth that is perched on their black nose, and the moth is gazing back at them with a trusting expression. A northern holly fern peeks into frame just below the moth.

More insects can be seen in the grass and other greenery nearby - a mayfly beside the plantainleaf sedge on a stalk of bent grass, sitting with their arms raised to the sky. A v-marked lady beetle rests on a leaf in the upper left of the picture.

To the right, two butterflies - a hackberry emperor and a red admiral - dance in the sunlight above a field of purple foxgloves and lupin flowers. A common eastern bumble bee is stuffed inside one of the foxgloves, busily gathering pollen. In the background, tall green trees fade into a dark forest beyond the flowery clearing.

My final art fight attack! Took me a while to post it. A pretty OC owned by Callistowitha! I had so much fun with art fight, I'm definitely doing it again next year. I got really into it by the end! #art #ArtFight #ArtFight2026 #ocsky

A digital art piece of a white and purple creature on a mountain. They look like a mix between a lizard and a cat, with large fins on their head, purple gills on their neck, and rounded, striped nubs along their spine and down their tail. They have large purple eyes with slit pupils, and they shine as if they contain a galaxy inside of them. Their stomach is the same colour, mottled purple with hints of blue and speckled with hundreds of shining stars. Large white five pointed stars are scattered across their rump, hindleg, and the fins on their head.

They walk across a dark landscape, leaving tracks in the starry-looking snow beneath their paws. Distant pines are framed against the aurora borealis that shimmers in the night sky above them.

A closer shot of a digital art piece of a purple forest. Two white rib bones jut out of the soil, and a shadowy deer with huge curling antlers and skeletal markings peeks out from behind them with glowing pale eyes. Tall purple-black trees fade into the fog, and faintly glowing orbs drift in the distance. At the bottom of the image is a mirror-like purple pond, and a kodama is perched in the crook of a tall tree, peering down with large black eyes.

A closer shot of a digital art piece, with a full shot of the rippling water of the pond and the tufted grasses that surround it. Dark grass and leaves peek into the foreground, with a purple snail overlooking the scene from atop a wide leaf. Their pale white eyes shine in the gloom.

You've stumbled upon a mysterious place... Close up shots in the replies! As always, detailed alt text is included. 💜 #art #aughost #bugs #inverts #bugsky #spooky #AltText

A digital art piece of a mysterious purple forest enshrouded in fog. A massive white ribcage juts out of the ground, the remnant of some ancient beast, and within it is a fairy ring of purple mushrooms that shimmer in the faint light. Between two ribs a delicate gossamer spiderweb is stretched, finely crafted and with a small, pale spider sitting in the center. A purple monarch-looking butterfly is perched atop the lowest left rib.

To the left of the bones is a small pond, the reflection of a tall black tree in its mirrored surface. In the upper crook of the tree is a kodama, peeking at the viewer. Footprints of some unknown beast are faintly visible beside the water, trailing off into the gloom.

The trees fade into the darkness of the forest and the creeping fog, and under their shadow, a deer-like creature stands ominously. They have abnormally large antlers and a skeletal pattern over their dark, shadowy form. Two glowing white eyes piece the fog and stare at the viewer with an unsettling intensity. Glowing orbs, either fireflies or wisps, drift in the fog.

Overlooking the scene is a small grassy hill, grasses and ferns peeking into the foreground. A snail is perched on a wide leaf, their pale eyes glowing in the dim light of the forest. They gaze out upon the scene, a silent observer.

A piece I did for Rahkali on art fight! The flaming wings were really fun to paint. 💜 #art #ocsky #artfight #artfight2026

A digital art piece of a draconic dog sitting with a regal and smug expression on their face, their mouth curled into a slight smirk which reveals their fangs. They have two pairs of black horns striped with orange, one curved like a ram and the other curled upwards.

Black scales like armour shield their legs, shoulders, and paws, rimmed with a fiery orange. Massive, dagger-like claws on each of their paws, orange and black, shine in the firelight cast on them by the huge pair of flaming wings that grow from their back. Made of brilliant orange fire, they glow brightly, and sparks glow in the air around them. The whole scene is illuminated by the flames, their grey-brown body and fluffy brown chest fur glowing with the soft warmth.

They have two tails that are held high, the tips of them armoured with the same black and orange scaling, though they're difficult to see through the flames of their draconic wings. The background is a soft, plain brown, though it too is illuminated by the firelight, casting a dark shadow beneath them.

A digital art piece of a rosy maple moth OC named Mist with a worm named Lich perched on her head. Only part of her head from her eyes to her antennae is visible, and she peeks upwards at the little worm who is curled up in her mane and drooped over the heart-shaped yellow marking on her fluffy pink forehead.

Her raspberry pink eyes have heart-shaped eyeshine, as vibrant and shiny as two gems, and her orange-yellow antennae are twitching with curiosity as she peers with affection and warmth at the tiny bug.

She has a large, fluffy yellow mane around her head that looks incredibly soft. Lich, nestled in it, is a softer pink, slightly fluffy. They have two big black eyes, one of which has an eyelash, and a happy mouth open wide in a smile.

Hearts float above both Mist and Lich's heads. The background behind them is creamsicle orange fading to yellow, giving the whole image a soft and warm feel.

A digital art piece of a ghostly crow perched atop a cliffside, clutching a coin in their beak. Floating flames, wisp-like, drift around them and illuminate their feathers with their shimmering cyan and pastel pink and purple light.

The crow has a skull-like mask carved from peach tree wood and marbled with pale pastel stripes, through which their blue eyes can be seen peering. A necklace of carved wooden beads and a talisman etched with '火災', pronounced as Kasai, dangles from their neck. The coin clutched in their beak is round with a square hole in the center, glinting bronze-gold in the light.

Their body is covered in fluffy blue-black feathers that shine in the light. Their wings are tucked back, shoulders hunched, as they peer ahead with an inscrutable look in their eyes. Their grey claws are partially transparent, ghostly and pale.

The cliffside they're perched on is bathed in soft yellow light, overlooking a purple body of water that reflects what looks to be the sun above. Soft pink clouds drift in the sky, and a lone peach tree in full bloom sits on a distant hillside, a splash of life in the beautiful but otherworldly scene.

A digital art piece of an adorable anthro bug cozied up by a small fire roasting a marshmallow on a twig. The firelight illuminates the scene, warmly glowing and keeping the encroaching gloom of night at bay.

They are kneeling down in the grass, a happy expression on their face as they relax and enjoy the evening. A bag of marshmallows sits in the grass next to them with cheery rainbow packaging and 'Bugmallows' written on it in bubble letters.

Their black antennae are curled happily, and they look perfectly relaxed. Their body is green with patches of red and yellow, and their abdomen is also striped with black, visible behind their see-through gossamer wings. They have a small tuft of fluff on the very tip of their abdomen, very similar looking to their fluffy cheeks and ankles.

It's a dark night except for the light of the fire, and the grass is as tall as they are, stretching towards the sky and as thick as a jungle except in the clearing where they're sitting. Distant trees can be seen, black against the dimming night sky. Only a memory of the dwindling daylight is left on the horizon, the faintest hint of yellow that fades into the deep starry black-blue of evening.

A digital art piece of Cinder, a therizinosaurus/peafowl/raptor hybrid OC, basked in the dim light of an eclipse. Their neck is curved to look into the distance where two pterosaurs are flying together. Their majestic red tail, plumage spotted with yellow eyespots with black 'pupils' dotted with white, is curled around them, fanned out into the foreground and dramatically eye-catching.

The fluffy feathers that cover their body are mostly brown-black, splashed with red and yellow in stripes across their back with a white underbelly and face bordered with the same vermilion shade of red. On their forearm is a small wing with brilliant red feathers splashed with yellow, nearly distracting enough to take your gaze off the elongated razor-sharp claws on their hands.

On their head are small decorative peafowl-like feathers, framed by the eclipse behind them. They have no visible pupils in their bright white eyes, but they still feel as if they could be staring straight at you.

Behind them is a scene of sunset orange and muted purple, the light of the day sucked away by the nearly total solar eclipse. Distant hills are bathed in the fading light. Cinder rests on a cliff overlooking a massive lake, which sparkles in the remaining sunlight. Far above, a few stars can be seen shining in the darkest part of the sky.

A digital art piece of a black footed ferret jackalope in the Arizona desert. They're facing to the left with their rear to the viewer, their head turned to look back with a disarmingly cute expression on their face. Their big, sparkling black eyes, pleadingly innocent, don't betray even a hint of the mischief contained within their small body.

They'd look just like a normal ferret if not for the fangs peeking out from their mouth, and the cream-coloured two pronged antlers that branch from their forehead. Their pale cream body is banded with brown, a dark mask across their face and legs and the tip of their fluffy, brush-like tail.

The sandy terrain below them is textured with cracks and scattered stones, and wispy stalks of grass blow in the breeze. Beyond the sandy ridge is a dip in the terrain, possibly concealing a sandy burrow. Various desert plants grow in the background, including a lone cactus. The distant hills, mottled with plant life and sand, are framed against a soft blue cloudy sky.

I've been really struggling with my health this year, but one thing I've really enjoyed is playing MHS3! The aknosom is such a pretty monster, I felt inspired to draw them in their natural habitat as a way to ease back into creating again. 💜 #art #monsterhunter #AltText #MHart #aknosom

A digital art piece of an aknosom from monster hunter, a scaled and feathered bird with a heron-like neck and a large, spiny crest. Their piercing yellow gaze is hungrily fixated on something out of view, and their grey and white scaled neck is outstretched forward inquisitively.

The brilliant vermillion and yellow scales above their black beak, dotted in the middle with an eye-like black spot, are rimmed with a crest of soft yellow feathers. Beneath the feathers is a much larger sail-like crest - rows of hard-ridged yellow bone covered in sharp crimson spines and a thick vermillion and yellow membrane stretched between them speckled with black flare give them a rather intimidating and majestic appearance.

The scene is set somewhere within the canalta timberlands, one of their natural habitats. A waterfall spills over a rocky cliff wall into a large pool, where sunlight glitters off the water and fish circle beneath the water. Two jellyfish-like creatures, starry meduso, drift in the air beside the waterfall. Plant life can be seen growing on the shore and reflected in the water, and rocky spires stretch into the sky, greenery sprouting from between cracks in the stone.

A lush jungle can be seen in the distance, and a tree with leaves like a lilypad grows beside the top of the waterfall. Tufted grass peeks into the foreground as it sways in the slight breeze, perhaps offering a bit of cover for the waiting aknosom, although their brilliant colouration would make it hard for them to camouflage anywhere.

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween! 🧡🎃💜 It's a bit of a tradition for me to draw my OC Idem. 💜 I had a lot of fun with this piece, Especially the hawkmoth! :3 #art #OC #OCsky #Halloween #Idem #cuteart

A digital art piece of a cat sitting in a carved pumpkin. Their purple-blue skin is speckled with stars, shimmering like the night sky behind them. Their yellow eyes, fixated on the death's head hawkmoth in front of their nose, glow even more brightly than the large crescent moon that hangs in the sky, illuminating the scene with a warm yellow glow.
The Jack o' lantern has a cute but devious fanged grin. A flowering pumpkin vine trails from either side, and the lid of the pumpkin sits half hidden behind the grass. In the background, ragged clouds partially obscure the moon and stars. A dark tree with two hanging bats is barely visible in the gloom of the night.

I made a regular recolour too! I thought it'd be interesting to see how it looked. I prefer them shiny, personally. I took a while to post this, I've just had a lot on my plate. Hopefully I'll have more time to create things as the seasons change 💜

A digital art piece of the pokemon kingdra. They're drawn to look like a weedy sea dragon, with delicate tan fins that trail off their body like leaves on a sea plant.
Their cerulean body has long, elegant protrusions that branch like coral from their head and back. Their ruby red eyes are resolute yet almost lonely as they gaze ahead.
In the background, three luvdisc float in the purple-hued water, under the light of the sun that shines down from the surface. One of them is a bright golden yellow, the same shade as the kingdra's belly.
Wispy, kelp-like sea plants frame the scene in the foreground. The kingdra is swimming towards their beckoning tendrils, away from the light of the surface.

Weedy Sea Kingdra, drifting alone 💜🪸 The colours look a lil washed out compared to how it looked on my drawing tablet >< I have some spooky season art in the works too! I've just been swamped irl so I haven't been able to draw as much. #art #pokemonart #pokemon #seadragon #kingdra

Stop! This is a Mantis appreciation checkpoint! ✋ Please take a moment to breathe, drink some water, and appreciate this lovely mantis. They want you to love yourself. 💜💚 #photography #bugs #inverts #invertefest #mantis #bugsky #AltText

A photograph of a beautiful green mantis sitting on someone's hand. Their head is tilted curiously towards the camera, and their delicate antennae are curled at the tips. Only their head is in focus, but their elegant arms are tucked in front of them quite politely.

Another photograph of the mantis, still focused on their head. Their pseudopupils facing to the right give them a slightly impish expression, as if they're thinking about something a bit devious.

A photograph of a close up shot of the mantis' forelegs. Their tibial spines are in full view, black and green and quite thorny looking. Their forelegs are veined and look very similar to a leaf, and the inner side has a slight blush of yellow. Their coxa (the upper part of their forelegs) is speckled with white, and a hint of a large and striking white spot encircled with black can be seen peeking out.

Another view of the mantis, this time focused on their leaf-like abdomen. The ripples of veins on their forewings look almost identical to those of a leaf. Their camouflage is impeccable. Their thin, twig-like hind legs can be seen, though they're not in focus.

I met & rescued this lovely little guy yesterday. They were a little too adventurous and had ended up stranded on a bridge, with a very long fall to the water below and no greenery in sight. I was really drawn in by their beautifully vibrant body. 💜🐛 #photography #invertefest #bugs #inverts #larva

A photograph of a vivid yellow and mint coloured sawfly larva. Their suction cup feet and underside are lemon yellow, and their mint body is dotted with black spots all along their back and sides. They're curled into a tight ball to protect themselves from danger, and they're resting on top of a sumac leaf.

Another view of the squishy little larva. This time their face is visible, hidden beneath their body, and their large, reflective black eyes are peeking out.

Another very similar shot of the larva. Their body is very wrinkly, and the bright yellow of their belly and feet looks almost like the center of a flower.

A photograph of the larva, perched atop the wristband of a watch. Their stubby yellow legs are reaching boldly forwards as they explore their surroundings. Their dome-like black head looks almost like a helmet, keeping them safe from harm.
The watch band is covered in a repeating pattern of foxes, mushrooms, and leaves. It's a very similar colour to the larva itself.

A black locust unicorn! Undecided on a name. I started this art piece several months ago, but I was too burned out to finish it. Finally it's complete. 💜 For me, it represents freedom. 🌸🌿 #art #unicorn #creaturedesign #OCsky #OCart #OC #characterdesign #fantasy

A digital art piece of a black locust unicorn frolicking through a field of flowers bathed in the orange glow of sunset. The unicorn's flowing brown mane is filled with blooming white locust flowers, as is their tufted tail, and loose petals flutter in the wind behind them.
The sun shines behind them, illuminating their thorn-like horn and tufted ears with a halo of light. Their body is delicate yet muscular, and marbled in brown and cream markings similar to a pinto horse. Tucked away beneath their mane is a branch of black locust leaves, and they have similar markings running down their back.
In the distance on a hill is a solitary locust tree in bloom. A hawk hunts far above. Dark clouds are looming in the distant horizon, but they're dissipating in the fading light of the setting sun.
The unicorn gazes forwards with eyes as golden as the sky, their expression peaceful. They look as though they've been carrying a heavy burden for a very long time, but are finally free.

Met this pretty little friend recently. I love getting lost staring at the tiny details and intricacies of small bugs 💜 I hope one day I can afford a macro lens so I can study them in even greater detail. #inverts #photography #bugsky #bugs #grasshopper #macro #invertefest

A photograph of a grasshopper sitting on a dry stalk of grass. Their yellow-green body shines in the dappled sunlight, and their large, dark eyes glint with fierce courage. Their colouration, from the dark grey that streaks their legs and abdomen to the vibrant orange of their antennae, seems perfectly suited to camouflage them in grass.

A photograph of the same grasshopper, this time a macro shot focused on their intricate and beautiful back leg. It looks almost like the scales of a dragon are running down their femur. Small black spines are barely visible along their crimson red tibia, tucked away just out of sight.
Their wings sparkle golden in the light as if they've been sprinkled with stardust, draped over their body like an elegant cloak.

I have returned after a several month burnout and hiatus! 💜 Drew this tiger beetle buddy for my best friend's birthday - meeting them is probably the best thing to happen to me this year. 🪲💚🧡 #art #traditionalart #inverts #bugs #beetle #flower #sciart #bugsky

A traditional art piece of a shiny green six-spotted tiger beetle perched on the vibrant orange petal of a tiger lily. The tiger beetle's antennae are extended inquisitively towards the brown-speckled center of the lily and the long stamen that stretch towards the sky. A tiny pink heart floats above the tiger beetle. It may be small, but the love it feels is anything but.

I don't do a lot of pixel art, but I did this last year c: 💜 I love dandelions. They're wild, resilient, and beautiful. They greet each day with vibrant joy, and carry their dreams for the next generation on the wind. 🌼 #art #pixelart #sciart #dandelion #botanical

Pixel art of a blooming yellow dandelion, its stem arched to greet the sun. It has two forked leaves branching off from the base, and an unbloomed head that twists to the right in the background. It's a very simple scene. The background is green that fades to a soft yellow from gentle sunlight.

Helped a snail cross the road and wanted to draw one 💜🐌 This luminous little friend is hanging out on a charcoal burner mushroom! 🍄🍂 #inverts #art #bugs #bugsky #snail #sciart #fungifriends

A digital art piece of a golden yellow snail. Their luminous golden eyes and spiral shell light up their surroundings with a soft yellow light. They're looking at the viewer with a thoughtful and calm expression, and their pale beige-yellow skin shines with lemon and orange hued iridescence where the light hits it.
They are perched on top of a reddish-purple charcoal burner mushroom, speckled with lighter markings. It has a pale cream stalk, and is peeking out from yellowed autumn grass. In the background, tall maple trees in the peak of their autumn colours shade the forest floor. The sky is a fading orange, the tail end of a sunset in October. The scene is warm and bright, as though the snail is offering hope despite the season's slow decay into winter.

Met this gorgeous wasp the other day 💜🐝 I petted their back and got gently kicked. They were really focused on nibbling on the flower. #photography #wasp #inverts #bugsky #bugs

A close up photograph of a paper wasp on a daisy. They're chewing on the yellow center of the flower, and a delicate dusting of pollen is sprinkled over their body. Their massive and intelligent eyes are focused intensely on the flower they're chewing on. The vivid black and yellow of their body and legs gives them a strikingly beautiful and dangerous look, and their rusty orange wings are elegantly poised. Sitting on the white petals of the flower in the foreground is a tiny midge with fluffy antennae.

Happy egg day friends 💜💜 Don't forget to share the bounty if you're able to! 💜💜 #photography #raven #corvid #bird

A photograph of a raven hopping across the ground towards a chicken egg placed in the grass. The raven's legs are stretched forward, their wings slightly open for balance as they bounce towards their prize.

The raven from the previous photograph has now reached the egg, and is leaning down to grab it. They look exceptionally pleased with the offering.

With an egg clasped in his beak, the raven is crouching, ready to escape with their treat. Their eyes gleam in the sunlight.

The raven is now making their escape on foot, bouncing jubilantly away with their wings spread wide. Their glossy feathers shine iridescent blue and green in the light.

I am a bundle of contradictions, but maybe that's okay. 💜🌼🐈‍⬛ New OC(s)! Rune is a chimera cat and Buttercup is their ball python tail. Buttercup is affectionate and gentle, and often cozies up in Rune's fur to cuddle. 💜🐍 #art #OC #OCsky #OCart #snake #cat #chimera #herps

A digital art piece of a chimera cat with a ball python tail looking smugly at the viewer. The cat named Rune has two curved goat horns that grow from their forehead, and their face is split roughly down the middle into two different colours - their right half is a black cat with an icy blue eye, and their left is a striped ginger with a warm orange-red eye. Their chest and chin fur is a pale cream, and their body is mottled with orange and black. They have a confident and devious expression, one fang peeking out from their mouth.
Buttercup the ball python is peeking in from the right, gazing with sparkling eyes at Rune. She's a warm brown, with white patches on her body and a heart-shaped white spot around her right eye. Lighter orange-brown patterns marble the brown of her body, some of which resemble buttercups in bloom. She has an innocent and happy expression.
Flowers and hearts surround Buttercup, and a five pointed star floats beside Rune. The background is a gradient of warm orange to soft blue, representing the dichotomy of the two very different individuals that somehow blend perfectly together.

After three days of freezing rain, everything is coated in ice. The wind and lightning were non-stop the last few days, but thankfully we didn't lose power. 💜 #photography

A photograph of a snowy paddock with a group of horses in the distance grazing on hay. A tree, its branches heavy with a coating of glistening ice, hangs over the fence.

A photograph of a bird's nest in a bare elderberry bush. Icicles hang from the nest and branches, and everything is covered in a layer of clear ice.

A photograph of a lilac bush, covered in a massive amount of ice. It sparkles in the light, and icicles hang from the end of every branch.

A photograph of a pine tree with hanging icicles. It has a soft, glazed look from the ice, and somewhat resembles hanging moss from the weight of the ice pulling it down.

Two of my toads shed their skin today! Fresh and clean little potatoes 💜💜💜 Picture of my lovely queen, Thea (with deceptive alt). This ridge used to be covered in moss, but she likes to renovate. I love her so much 🥹💜 #photography #toads #toad #herps #pets

A photograph of a very regal looking toad, looking at the viewer with an imperious gaze. She's brown and cream, covered in small bumpy warts and mottled with beautiful patterns and spots. Her eyes are speckled with flecks of gold, and the tips of some of her warts are a rusty red. She looks like all the beauty of the earth itself compressed into one perfect little lady.
She is very fat, and her chubby little arms are tucked comfortably under her chest, as though she's thoughtfully considering whether or not you're small enough for her to eat. She looks very comfortable and relaxed, her only concern being whether or not she can successfully demolish the last bit of moss that clings to her throne.

Close up of their cute little face! 💜 I'm still studying insect anatomy. I'm really thankful I got to see this little beauty in person and take a close look at them! When they weren't moving, even with their bright markings, they were nearly invisible on the bark.

A close up of the art piece of a firefly described in the post above this one, displaying their adorable little head and mouthparts in better detail.

The little friend I met yesterday was a winter firefly! They were up in the woods drinking sap from tree bark. 💜🍁 Their colours were so lovely, I wanted to draw them in a pose where you could see every part of them! #art #traditionalart #sciart #firefly #bugs #bugsky #inverts #the100dayproject

A traditional drawing of a winter firefly crawling on tree bark. They're heading towards a drop of maple sap that's leaking down the bark with a small yellow-brown waterskin looped over their back, ready to collect some for later after drinking their fill. Their gaze is turned towards the viewer, a look of excitement and expectation in their sparkling eyes. Their antennae are wiggling excitedly, and their mouthparts are reaching towards the droplet.
The firefly is mostly black, with a wingcase that looks remarkably like a sunflower seed speckled with yellow. The black plate of their body that shields their head has a vibrant streak of yellow and red. Segmented black legs grip the bark with little two-toed feet, reaching intrepidly forwards as they climb. Beneath their wings, a hint of bright pink peeks out, revealing the vibrancy of their hidden abdomen.

It's day 25 of #the100dayproject - I'm a quarter of the way through. I'm very exhausted and ill today but I managed to draw a little. I saw this little friend up in the woods today - do you know who they are? 💜 I'll post their ID when I finish this artwork tomorrow! #WIP #bugs #inverts #bugsky

A work in progress traditional art piece of an insect. Their head is angled to look at the viewer with large, sparkling black eyes. They have shiny mouthparts and elongated black antennae that extend out of view, curving curiously forward. Around their black, red, and yellow hard shelled body, a waterskin is looped and dangles down underneath their front arm. Perhaps they're collecting something? The artwork is only partially coloured.
