If you’re changing the org chart, don’t design it behind closed doors and introduce it in a top-down manner—that’s a terrible way to foster aligned autonomy as it robs people of their sense of autonomy. Instead, the people affected by the redesign exercise should be involved as much as possible.

It is tempting to do research and management where there are data. It gives the manager a feeling of doing something useful. However, managers need to be careful of falling into a trap of managing the measurable rather than managing the important.

Cursing is rarely a symbol of low class. It's often a mark of high authenticity. Evidence: Swearing predicts higher rates of honesty and integrity. It signals a willingness to prize candor over courtesy. A little profanity can show that you're being real and you do give a damn.

Why does Open Space work anyhow? How could something so simple do so much? The short answer is that Open Space works because self-organization works. At least that is the conclusion I have reached after some fifteen years’ wondering how this little marvel manages to do what it does. #FASTAgile

I really dislike being asked "tell me about a time when..." questions in interviews. I think Will Guidara's approach is much more sensible.
"When I was younger, I took a lot of pride in coming up with interview questions. I now believe the best interview technique is no technique at all: you simply have enough of a conversation that you can get to know the person a little bit. Do they seem curious and passionate about what we’re trying to build? Do they have integrity; are they someone I can respect? Is this someone I can imagine myself—and my team—happily spending a lot of time with?" (Will Guidara, Unreasonable Hospitality)

History repeats and the same happens again with OKRs (a very similar concept to management by objectives) being done in a way so poorly it defeats its original purpose.
"The concept of “management by objectives” has received considerable attention in recent years, in part due to the writings of Peter Drucker. However, management by objectives has often been interpreted in a way which leads to no more than a new set of tactics within a strategy of management by direction and control." (Douglas McGregor, The Human Side of Enterprise)

Many firms try to use OKRs as a form of top-down control, ensuring that each subordinate’s OKRs fit with the OKRs of their superior. While this feels like alignment, it all but eliminates any chance of divergence or serendipity.

Even in early #Scrum, the founders are recommending one of the same practices #FASTAgile does - team members should be T-shaped i.e. multi skilled. #Agile #BetterWaysOfWorking
Cross-fertilization: Team members work collaboratively, and the lines between specialties start to blur. In fact, some companies mandate that every team member have two specialties (for example, coding in more than one language and testing) and two domains (for example, design and marketing).

Most new ideas will never pan out. That’s why failure is a fact of life. But it’s a law of #innovation that successes can’t go up unless failures go up, too. And because we can’t have successes without the failures, we need to create organizational cultures that cherish failure.

You may remember when the Scientific Method was trusted to provide information that helped us. You may remember when there were facts. And how factual evidence was used to make decisions. That way of life vanished with high-speed delivery, universal access, social media, Googling, and algorithms.
If you’re old enough, you may remember life before the internet. If you’re very old, never mind. You may remember reading newspapers, articles, and books to get your information. You may remember being able to read for more than a few minutes and to remember what you read. You may remember when you read rather than listening to an audio book or podcast. You may remember leisurely conversations where you discussed ideas with friends and family over a meal. You may remember gathering with work colleagues for hours or even days to think about plans and strategies. You may remember when the Scientific Method was trusted to provide information that helped us. You may remember when there were facts. And how factual evidence was used to make decisions. That way of life vanished with high-speed delivery, universal access, social media, Googling, and algorithms.

For the most part, leaders just take care of themselves, regardless of what they should do either to adhere to moral strictures or to make their organizations perform better. (Jeffrey Pfeffer, Leadership BS)
"The various examples of taking bonuses and other large payments while asking for wage and job cuts from the rank and file, the growing disparity between CEO and average employee pay, and CEO and senior leader economic security often obtained at the expense of the workforce—all these factors belie any widespread empirical evidence that senior leaders are taking care of others first. Interesting that the #Scrum guide authors suggest fluid teams! An idea core to #FASTAgile. Also interesting is the "set of shared values" across teams (FAST Collective), to support fluid teaming. Where did the obsession with static teams come from? The Scrum authors suggested fluid in this book.

This is one of the problems that #FASTAgile is able to solve through fluid teaming. Although a single team can schedule tasks together and optimize its flow internally, it becomes much harder for two teams to schedule tasks together. ~ @jeffgothelf.bsky.social
Although a single team can schedule tasks together and optimize its flow internally, it becomes much harder for two teams to schedule tasks together. If a designer has to produce a drawing for team A, then her work for team B is idled until that drawing is complete. And if two people on team A have responsibilities to other teams—for example, the designer owes work to team A and the developer owes work to team C—then the scheduling problem suddenly multiplies in complexity and rapidly becomes unmanageable.

There are two aspects to diversity to consider in your org - demographic and cognitive diversity. Addressing demographic diversity involves removing cognitive bias in hiring. Addressing cognitive diversity involves conscious choice of hiring for different experiences. #BetterWaysOfWorking
We will be focusing not upon demographic diversity, but cognitive diversity. That’s to say, differences in perspective, insights, experiences and thinking styles. There is often (but not always) an overlap between these two concepts. People from different backgrounds, with different experiences, often think about problems in different ways.
