In a fascinating coincidence, the Character.ai CEO just became the first ever CTO at Disney

Interesting coincidence that Disney just hired the first CTO in its history, who was most recently CEO of Character.AI www.cnbc.com/2026/09/18/d... Disney could have doubled down on original human creativity and their reputation for kid safety, but instead they are going to become a slop factory

I haven’t had parents for some time, but I do wonder how they as lifelong midwesterner boomers would have reacted to my housing costs in major west coast metros. I’m not sure they ever experienced rent or mortgage payments above 3 figures

They say this stuff but never explain specifically how that would happen. Bezos is one of the richest people in the world in part because he fought labor unions tooth and nail, oversaw countless abusive labor practices, engaged in price fixing, etc etc. He doesn’t give a shit about regular people

My boss will ask me for bullet points, which she feeds into an AI to turn into a slide. Every slide looks the same, because there’s no concept of using the layout/design to make the messaging more effective. It also dilutes the key info with business speak BS, so in the end the slide says nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Entering into a marriage contract: reliance Belief you are entitled to miscarriage care and won’t be left to bleed out in a parking lot: abstract

Samuel Alito: We won't overturn Obergefell because it's engendered reliance interests. Jan Crawford: Well, many people had organized their lives around Roe v. Wade. Alito: No, they didn't. Women merely had an "abstract" interest in "ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in."

The Alito Court: A rare interview with the influential Supreme Court justice
Justice Samuel Alito discussed his opinion in the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade, the leaked draft and its aftermath, same-sex marriage rights and why he's not retiring yet.

Under Roe women could generally rely on timely and appropriate care for miscarriages and pregnancy complications. Now states with abortion bans have escalating maternal mortality, because providers are so afraid of being prosecuted that they won’t provide care and let women suffer and die instead.

General Disarray @qotm31.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Being able to rely on timely and necessary medical care including abortion instead of dying, losing reproductive capability, or other serious and lasting health impacts related to pregnancy isn’t a reliance interest? You think death is nothing compared to paperwork?

Fentanyl has been used at least once in an execution as the painkiller within a multi drug protocol. As an opioid, factors like weight and preexisting opioid tolerance make its effects highly variable. If used alone it likely would take far longer to kill the prisoner than desired, if at all.

Probably the judge would not put 80 year old mom in law in jail, it would have been fines, but like WTF was the plan there? She’d also been ignoring desperate messages from the estate lawyer for many months. Just incredible stuff.

General Disarray @qotm31.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
A less good version of this is when the relatives in charge of late grandparents estate ignore it for years, but the will says house must be sold, probate judge gets so mad he threatens the relatives with contempt so you have to fly there to deal with grandparents house so mom doesn’t go to jail

This shouldn’t be sustainable, but big tech keeps raking in money by exploiting and manipulating its users. Between buying political power and regulatory capture, nothing meaningful can happen to them. I’m tired

Tech became aggressively stupid, to predatory, to the CEOs are straight up criminals and that’s just how it is now. Nothing is fun, inspirational, or makes me want to learn something new. Everything evolves to be worse, more annoying, more frustrating than it was.

Been in tech a long time, seen a lot of hype cycles. For the more ridiculous ones (like blockchain) I could just roll my eyes and wait for the executives to tire themselves out. Maybe I’m just old, but the last few years I’m so tired, and tired of it.

My personal theory is that some people feel such entitlement to a completely personalized/optimized life experience that they are now unwilling to leave home without it. The concept of respecting shared public spaces - or sharing at all really - doesn’t exist to them 🫠
