Spent last week surveying plant communities living in streams across Britain as part of the long-running Upland Waters Monitoring Network (uwmn.uk) assessing impact of air pollution on freshwater ecosystems. We had all four seasons over the week!

Delighted that the EU COST Action DNAqua-Net collaboration has once more borne fruit. We undertook a structured experiment across seven DNA labs to assess sources of uncertainity in metabarcoding for freshwater macroinvertebrate community assessment. Open Access. doi.org/10.1111/2041...

NEWS: Despite fears about insect declines, we know very little about 99% of species globally 🌍📉. Scientists are proposing a new approach to get a more complete picture of insect populations and analyse how they are responding to threats. Read more: www.ceh.ac.uk/press/some-i... 🧪 🧵 1/

Working with colleagues at @lborouniversity.bsky.social @rothamsted.bsky.social @zoologyotago.bsky.social we have shown that organic component of excess fine sediment in stream bed governs invertebrate community response. Open Access paper now out in Freshwater Biology doi.org/10.1111/fwb....
