i'm not in the habit of telling ppl which characters they should/shouldn't like, but i do find it... odd.... that some ppl are using the most twisted and uncharitable readings of the text to call zzl a groomer when the same accusation has been leveled on against their own fave on numerous occasions

yea fangfang mentioned in an interview that when he signed onto 长歌行 he only had a vague description of his character, who's basically an oc (technically wei shuyu's a historical figure, but he doesn't show up in the og manhua)

yea the action scenes look pretty good, tho there haven't been that many so far have not read the novel so i'm just going in blind lol

i guess the simplest way to put it is: it took me twice as long to finish this show bc i paused it so frequently to 吐槽 that a 45 minute episode would take me nearly two hours to complete

also since i'm here: i've seen actual bts footage of fangfang chatting w/ the drama's director and trying to work out the logical inconsistencies in wei shuyu's characterization, so i can only imagine how bad the og script was

90% of his screen time sees him acting as a 工具人 to help push the main and secondary cps' relationships forward bc ??? i guess the writers don't know how to show that the first and second male leads are ideal husband material without comparing them to other """inferior""" men

for all that i'm quite fond of wei shuyu as a character (in cast full of extraordinary people, he's just an ordinary man who actually like. has a family that he loves and cares about more than any potential love interest, sorry changge),

长歌行 the first like... 10~15 episodes were actually really good! the suspense was hitting, the visual direction was fantastic, etc. etc. etc., but then came ~25 episodes of dogblood soap opera garbage before the final 10-ish episodes, which were somewhat less garbage

玉骨遥 badly written and poorly directed; the main cp's early interactions felt dragged out and forced, like the screenwriter was trying to meet a quota; the female lead is insufferable and the male lead is a hypocrite; ngl i only managed to finish bc of fyl's beautiful face orz

the main cp just didn't work for me, which wasn't an issue at first when the show was more 群像 but then [redacted] & [redacted] died + su changhe and mu yumo went off to do their own things, and there wasn't anyone left to distract from the main cp's complete lack of chemistry

and now onto the less great shows... 暗河传 how did my mom put it... 一帮子乡下人想做城里人试了一下没成功灰溜溜地又回去了😂 i wouldn't exactly call it a /bad/ show bc i was definitely (mostly) entertained, but it also took me a while to finish bc (esp toward the end) i kept hitting the pause button to complain

just for aesthetics, here's a quick look at fangfang's styling in the show i'm probably in the minority, but imo fangfang looks rly nice in a full bun without any 龙须 hanging in his face v.douyin.com/Aw8AxrSrX0M/

怎敌她千娇百媚 a happy surprise bc i'm not rly into romcoms; had to suspend my disbelief a lil w/ the initial set-up, but once that was out of the way it's just fun; v. feel-good girl-positive show feat. the cutest cast ever + some of fangfang's prettiest looks to date; love triangle (square?) done right

一念关山 honestly surprised me with how good it was; i actually loved the ending, but then i'm a BE connoisseur 🙈 great 群像剧 only slightly ruined by a love triangle that dragged on for way too long; yang ying for best-written female character of the year; yu shisan for fangfang's best role to date

*tbf this is how i feel about most cdrama romances also we need to talk about how small/medium-budget dramas actually have actors do things (e.g. jump into a lake to save someone and film things underwater) instead of relying on cgi (stares @ the "underwater" scene in 水龙吟)

御赐小仵作 proof that you don't need a big budget or traffic stars to create magic on screen; overall just rly well-written and acted; only criticism is the romantic subplot felt kinda gratuitous and underdeveloped,* but it took up so little screen time i didn't mind it that much
