Also want to share a couple of my favorite Tomodachi Life Miis! I love the character design aspect of trying to convey a character with (relatively) limited options.

“Show Mii your moves!” - Captain Falcon, F-Zero

Most proud of the white “eyes,” which are actually his eyes (the black visor is painted on).

“You lookin’ down on Mii!?” - Panette, Fire Emblem Engage

Felt nice to use the face paint for actual face paint.

“It’s your boy, Guzmii!” - Guzma, Pokémon Sun/Moon

Alright, that one’s a bit of a stretch.

Felt like Ava’s outfit needed just a bit extra, so I gave her a skirt (thing). Still need to work out her boots, and then maybe try it out in an actual drawing. [ #ocsky #art #characterdesign ]

Color blocking type “sketch” to test out some new details for Ava’s design. She’s got a wavy half-skirt thing now (I saw some people refer to this type of clothing as a “butt cape,” which honestly describes it well).

To take it further, I’d love to distinguish “AI characters” (like Diana) from “genAI.” I always worry that when I say Ava is an AI, people might mistakenly think I’m making her as an LLM or something.

Ava is now “holding” a text box that says “Continue? Yes / No” and the wings on her feet were adjusted. Otherwise it’s the same as the last image posted of her.

Cheating a bit for this “art year” post because my last full-body art of Ava was a year and a half ago... It’s hard to find time for art these days, so it’s not much, but I’m proud of what I have accomplished.

Old art of Ava. She’s weirdly A-posed with bad colors and shading and proportions… though I’m probably too harsh on it.

New art of Ava. The pose is more intentional, the colors and shading are sharper, and the design is definitely better. There’s still plenty of room for improvement, but at least it’s progress.

Planning a 2025 art post once this is finished, but wanted to share something today! So much of my art progress revolved around getting Ava’s design to this point.

WIP of Ava’s new design. It’s a simple pose (inspired by Luis Ricardo Falero’s “Lily Fairy”) intended to show most of the details of the new design, such as her short, spiky hair, circuitry-like patterns on her clothes, and flowing ribbons shaped like fairy wings.

Finally settled on a new design for Ava! I realized I had no idea how to render this, though, so I guess I know what to improve next.

Art of Ava, my character! She is essentially a hologram wearing a dark bodysuit with cyan details, long white boots, and a white chest piece with two long ribbons coming out of it. The ribbons go over her shoulders, wrap around her waist, then trail off, forming a shape like butterfly wings. She has short cyan hair, cyan eyes, and a small smile.

My friend is writing a story, so I offered to draw some quick concepts of his characters. Given that I only had a few hours to draw, I’m pretty proud of how they turned out!

Akoram (left) and Zara (right). Akoram is a young war veteran who was (honorably) relieved of duty after an injury. He’s desperately searching for a new way to protect and provide for his soon-to-be family at a renowned university. Zara is a farm girl who wanted to live the simple life, but when she hears that her fiancé decided to study instead of coming back home after his injury, she sets out to confront him.
