What I don't get is why Burnham becoming PM wasn't already priced in? We've known about it for weeks. It seems to me that markets are simply petty.
Government borrowing costs lifted higher and the value of the pound weakened after Andy Burnham became prime minister this afternooon.

The yield on 10-year government bonds, called gilts, moved eight basis points higher to 5.049% at the end of London trading, PA reported.

They had been largely steady after the new prime minister took over the role but lifted after he told reporters he would use “any flexibility” he could find within the existing fiscal rules.

The value of gilts decrease as the yield on them increases.

Meanwhile, the value of the pound slipped by 0.29% to 1.341 against the US dollar, having been positive throughout most of the day’s trading.

The FTSE 100 finished 0.71% lower at 10,524.76 points at the close.

Why is this a headline? Why should we care what Sting thinks about this subject? Is he an expert in it? Are arbitrary opinions of famous people worth listening to? I think we all know the answers to those questions.
Headline in The Guardian. Music: Loss of manual jobs could be driving toxic masculinity, says Sting

Does Trump really think this will encourage Nato allies to join his illegal war, when the Russian wolf is at the European gate? No. He just wants to blame someone else for the consequences of his inconceivably stupid decision to go to war.

They almost look like they are handcuffed together.
Keir Starmer and Donald Trump standing side-by-side with their left and right hands raised. A solider behind them is looking on, seemingly disapprovingly. The way Starmer and trump are raising their hands awkwardly, it's easy to imagine they are handcuffed.

Amazon / Google are suggesting this book on Valentine's Day. It's not random: my wife and I both had it as recommendations. Big tech promoting misogyny.

Here's a good graph from Martin Wolf in the FT. This is why the UK can't go it alone. We either have to suck up to the US, with massive loss of face and sovereignty, or form a supra-national grouping with European countries, pooling sovereignty for our mutual benefit. If only such a thing existed!
A graph showing how, since 1950, the UK's proportion of the world's exports, GDP (at PPP) and population have fallen. Goods exports has fallen from about 13% to about 2%; GDP (at PPP) has fallen from a little of 6% to a little over 2%; and population has fallen from around 2% to a little over 1%.

This (apparently) is from a Slovenian newspaper.
Portrait of Donald Trump in a red tie and and navy blue suit jacket. He has a badge (pin) of the Venezuelan flag on his lapel. From his nose, oil streams leaving a smear that looks like a toothbrush mustache, made famous by Hitler.

China is threatening world war if the west doesn't accept China-Russian hegemony. The US has made itself weak by electing a president who is internationally ineffectual. Europe needs to start spending money on defence like we're at war. #russia #china #trump #europe

I was curious about usage over time. The person I heard say it was around 40, younger than me. Looking at this graph I may be too old rather than too young. Voicing an opinion showing moral superiority over opinionating is funny, though. Thanks for that!
A graph showing the frequency with which 'grok' is used over time from 1800 to 2021. It shows a increase from 1960 to 2012, when it starts to tail off, with 'humps' around '71 and '93.
