The best open source tool for the job doesn't have to be built in-house. When evaluating Python type checkers, Google chose @pyrefly.org—originally built at Meta—and started contributing upstream alongside the community. Read our journey: goo.gle/pyrefly-at-g...

@napari.org reports its Pyrefly check at ~0.7s warm / 0.9s cold, versus ~15–25s cold in its previous mypy setup. Fast checks change habits: run it locally, fix the thing, move on. Compute left for science. Thanks for the great write-up on your experience! napari.org/island-dispa...

Turns out we're not the only Pyrefly 😯 While in Brisbane for a PyCon AU, we found out the heavy metal band @pyreflyband.bsky.social was playing there the same weekend. Obviously we had to go and exchange swag!

✨ The Pyrefly type-checker now tracks Polars DataFrame schema 🏷️ Declare a schema using Annotated 📚 Enjoy clearer self-documenting code and avoid some schema-related issues before hitting prod 😇 The annotated schema will be ignored by other type-checkers so you won't get conflicts between them

Congratulations on JupyterHub 6.0 🎉 Notebooks aren’t a side quest to “real” Python—they’re where students, researchers, and data teams do real work. We’re excited to keep learning from the Jupyter community as we think about tooling that respects the notebook workflow.

Announcing the PSF Strategic Plan 2026
In May, the Python Software Foundation (PSF) shared the high-level goals of our Strategic Plan. In June, we published the full draft and opened it for community feedback. Today we are sharing the outcome: at its July 8 meeting, the PSF Board adopted the PSF Strategic Plan 2026, covering 2026 to 2031.

New to Python types? Don’t start with “annotate everything.” Start with a number. `pyrefly coverage check` makes progress visible- including a public-API-only option. Type migrations need a progress bar, not a guilt trip. What would you type first? pyrefly.org/blog/why-typ...
