Important to note that they didn't filter out the section of PCH where the speed limit has been temporarily dropped 30 mph or so - especially if active work isn't being performed, I'd guess:
snip from linked article: The area between Sunset Boulevard and Las Flores Canyon Road remains an active work zone, and is subject to single-lane closures and a 25 mph speed limit, according to Caltrans.

A good article, but the grading used by the Map site is fantastic and should be more widely adopted:

Given that LEO's are hewing ever closer to Stasi/KGB authoritarian tactics, this doesn't surprise one at all (article focused on UK, but US Secret Service too) www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2...
snip from link: ‘No immediate owner’

In December 2022, and in October 2023, Oxygen’s chief executive told the US government that Oxygen Forensics had “no immediate or highest-level owner”.

By September 2024, the US Secret Service had awarded Oxygen a five-year contract for its software.

In March, Mr Reiber allegedly told the US government that there had been no Russians involved in developing the software and that no one in Russia had access to the environment in which it was built. US prosecutors say this was false.

If convicted, both Mr Reiber and Mr Davydov could face a sentence of 20 years in prison.

Alicia Kearns, the shadow security minister, said “It is utterly unacceptable” that Oxygen’s software has been used by British police forces and called for the Home Office to fully investigate its use.

This bit is really important (and a part of our Title IX annual training, tho I am glad I've never had to perform as a mandated reporter if a student confided. I still think I'll suck at jamming the mandated reporter bit into the discussion):
snip from link: CPW: Can you give me some examples of what a Title IX office can do?

The Title IX office can give you resources, supportive measures, and immediate help in a way that a lawsuit, or even a university’s Title IX hearing, simply can’t. So, let's say you need to avoid the perpetrator, the Title IX office is where you can go to create a really comprehensive plan for yourself to stay safe on campus. It's also where you might be able to get help with extending deadlines, fixing grades, or engaging in a fast-tracked informal resolution with the perpetrator, which isn’t perfect, but it may get victims what they need to feel peace. And sometimes, victims prefer that, and they don't want to go through a hearing -- hearings are super traumatic and it takes a while to even get to a hearing, sometimes the better part of an academic year.

Have you read John Varley's Steel Beach? It's only a part of the far ranging story, but when you think about where transgender processes will be with medical advances in the near future, this whole debate is so pointless. Plus it has one of the best opening lines ever! Bonus AI overlord relevance.

America, where it is cheaper to buy politicians and policy than actually provide a decent service and build a sustainable, growing business not dependent upon fleecing monopoly victims:
Snip from link: None of that is a secret, but the dots were never connected quite so explicitly as when Frontier just assured investors, in writing, that it was making a lot of money from more than one million people who have no feasible alternatives, and that this justified "investing" political dollars to block cities from building networks, even where there is no cable internet deployment. Frontier's bankruptcy documents reveal that these political investments were always viewed as cheaper than the network investments they would otherwise have to make to keep its customers once they were no longer held hostage to its ailing, crumbling, overpriced network.

My friend Bill Harris on recent pop music. Yeah, I can hear so many songs which don't have real drums (and hate them), so this tracks (and the best music of any era is rarely the most popular) dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2026/08/pop-...
Snip from link- Top pop songs already sound so artificial that using AI to create the entire song isn't going to sound much different from what's already topping the charts.

I'll put a stake in the ground here: within the next 24 months, fully AI-generated pop songs are going to be heavily represented in the charts. No artist to manage, barely discernible difference in quality, exponentially lower production cost--it's a record label's dream situation.
