With the new year PyData NYC is looking for more volunteers! We stayed active with often two events a month and co-organized a conference with @pydatabos.bsky.social! We are the outreach arm of NumFOCUS so our goal is to support projects like NumPy, Pandas, and SciPy. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
A promotional poster for PyData NYC 2026. The header text reads, "Support open science and data by volunteering with PyData NYC in 2026!". The central image is a black silhouette of the Statue of Liberty, holding a microscope aloft instead of a torch, against a gradient sky of orange and blue over a city skyline. Scattered around the statue are various science-related line icons: a lightbulb with gears, a molecule, a chemical flask, an atom, a virus, a brain, a stack of books, a DNA helix, and a graph. At the bottom left is the "NUMFOCUS OPEN CODE = BETTER SCIENCE" logo, and at the bottom right is the "PyData NYC" logo with a cube graphic.

Thanks to Mars Lee for the talk "Introduction to Git for Open Source Science" last night!. Git and GitHub are much more interesting topics than people would guess so the discussion afterwards could have been endless if not for the venue closing for the evening. Join us on www.meetup.com/pydatanyc/
