Bonfire hillbilly TV mount project complete. The 11yo and I looked at each other and said, “The Thing!” in unison.

TV mounted to an old and weathered workbench, showing Notre Dame 52 - Rice 0. Why do people watch college football?

This has always felt like an inorganic narrative to me. He might just be a nice/cool dude with friends in the right places.

The Substance is still so good. I don’t care if my 11yo occasionally wanders into the living room to tell me I’m glazing. He doesn’t respect the balance.

I saw Foxygen at First Avenue in 2013, in the midst of rumors of some band turmoil. Half way through the first song, the lead singer fell off the stage and never reappeared. The band finished out the song and then they all left the stage. Eventually, EMTs showed up and that was the end of the show.

I’m convinced that The Invite is a top 5 of the 2020’s kind of movie.

Wings, the band The Beatles could have been.

Correct band, but S/T > Utopia Parkway > Welcome Interstate Managers is best run.

I remember this album being a bit of a letdown after loving the first one. Revisiting/reassessing now.

Also, drove down from MN for those two shows. My favorite act going right now.

I have delusions of getting down to Chicago next weekend, which is 3 hours from the Iowa gig, so maybe my scheming needs to intensify…

I’m finishing off my Evil Dead marathon in preparation for Burn, but I’m kind of jealous of this selection.

For some reason I never nabbed a copy of MJ Lenderman’s Boat Songs until now. 14 bucks. Not bad!

This was my exact concern. Loved it, but I have yet to rewatch it for fear of ruining that first time magic. Happy to hear this positive report.

My favorite. Really got into his music in 2018 with the last State Champion album. Was supposed to see them live a week from today, but they dropped off the Minneapolis Kurt Vile date.😢

Started off my Father’s Day by walking the dogs, doing laundry, fixing kid’s front AND back bike brakes, making french toast and doing the NYT crossword puzzle. All while listening to Ryan Davis & The Roadhouse Band on repeat. I have reached peak Dad.

My favorite song off this album, for sure. I never felt that this song got the attention it deserved.

Heck yeah, I just bought this on the Polyvinyl garage sale this morning and then wandered over to Bluesky to see who was still talking about this album. This album has a way of staying in rotation.

Seems pretty solid after a couple listens, but I admit that this one song hits a sweet spot for me and I caught myself replaying it a bunch. This is bad behavior from someone who prides themself as an album guy.

Oh wow, was just reminiscing on BD tours and found someone recorded a full Brian Dunne-Ken Yates collab set from their tour last summer. Still mad at myself for not making it to Chicago for two of my all-time favorites.

Incredibly fun live act, too. They played a small festival in WI a couple years in a row where I would get to see them 4-5 times in a weekend, as well as solo sets from the band members. I was spoiled.
