Reminds me of a judge who recently insisted that Ajax is not part of the Greater Toronto Area (it is) because "I'm the judge!" No consulting maps, just his irrefutable opinion.

Because he knows no one in Beaches-East York can stand him. Last try at the mayoralty, he finished far down the list here.

When he was immigration minister, his department denied visitor visas based on false objections - some people had visited many times before without incident. The snitch line was right in line with his general attitude toward “foreigners, so claiming he regrets the snitch line now is nonsense.

Maybe he should consult our 2021 census results on religion (the 2026 not yet published): 53.3% (Catholic: 29.9%), "No religion/secular" was 34.6%, Islam 4.9%, Hinduism 2.3%, Sikhism 2.1%, Buddhism 1.0%, and Judaism 0.9%." Maybe he shouldn't try to shove his Christian nationalism down our throats.

The only people who want standard time are experts in human circadian rhythm. Permanent daylight savings was tried and abandoned in several countries in the '70s. Reasons cited were children going to school in the dark, sleep issues and increases in accidents. But let's ignore science.

And they think MAID, which requires the person's explicitly stated wishes, consent, and a medical opinion, is inhumane.

Almost all experts say standard time is more in line with our circadian rhythm.

I live in Toronto too, and was never once asked for a vaccine "card," not that such things existed. And I doubt that having family over was the first or last reason her neighbours had to complain about her.

Some accuse Kinew of not seeing the bigger picture, but the true bigger picture is that "negotiating" with Trump is a waste of time. He will just rip up any agreement the minute his addled brain gets wind of some slight, imagined or real.

It's pretty clear what Jivani was advocating, given Vance's other bizarre statement that Canada is becoming more Trumpian.

Assuming there will be details. The Trump administration has quite a history of failing to iron those out, instead declaring "deals" and "victory" based on Trump's mood of the day (or more accurately, his mood of the middle of the night) with little or no follow-through.

Trudeau has a right to do happy dances whenever and wherever he wants: he doesn't have to deal with Trump 2.0, he has a partner who clearly adores him, his kids seem to be doing well, and he's wealthy enough to do whatever he wants. After what his years in office put him through, he deserves peace.

In 1955, a batch of vaccine containing live virus, produced by a U.S. company, did cause polio. Connaught Labs in Toronto produced extra shots to ship south after the bad lot was withdrawn. But for decades, few people stoped getting life-saving vaccinations, because they understood the benefits.

Trump is 80, old enough to have known people who served in WWII and to have witnessed the building of the world order in the decades after it. My kids are in their 50s and understand what happened in the 1930s, 1940s and later decades. It's not about age, it's about education and morality.

Ah, but MAID is morally reprehensible, right? Only the state or people with guns have the right to take someone's life, not the person living that life and no matter how unbearable that life might be.

Glad to see that the Canadian team is finally seeing how mad we are, using our anger as leverage. No doubt many businesses are justifiably scared, but at this point, those of us who are not similarly affected would probably cheer for any and all help the government wanted to give those businesses.

Now, but how do we enforce similar rules on our home-grown anti-vaxxers? Judging by the number of measles cases here, our own requirements are toothless.

Yes, he initiated it. Also, his office denied visitor visas on a cruel basis. From my MP's office at the time: a grandmother from China who wanted to take care of the grandchildren while their mother had cancer treatment. She'd been here many times, always went home, had money. Just one story.

Sadly, I know a few otherwise intelligent and well-informed people who thought scientists should have had all the answers about COVID (and a vaccine, at least for the non-deniers) by about April or May of 2020.

How about our PM puts some teeth in that pretty little speech in Davos and get together a good-sized group of Trump's victims to retaliate collectively? The U.S. is not self-sufficient in everything, so such a group would have considerable leverage. Tariffs, embargo, boycott—whatever hurts.

As the article says, domestic courts come before the ICC's involvement. The problem in the U.S. is that Trump is doing everything he can to kneecap American courts. No wonder Trump's acolytes want to get rid of the ICC—they fear the fate of Trump's war-criminal pals.

Last time Bradford ran for mayor, he came fifth (if memory serves) even in his own area, Beaches-East York. I live there, and have never met a single person who has a good word to say about him. The Sun headline showing him with a baseball bat to take on all the "home invaders" did not endear him.

This headline about Bradford does not surprise me. He lives in Beaches-East York. We are an elderly couple who also live in BEY and have never felt any need for weapons in our house. No wonder he was one of the least popular mayoralty candidates here last time. Using fear to gain votes is shameful.

I have never heard one expert on sleep promote permanent daylight savings time. While all object to the clocks changing, they say permanent standard time is healthier and safer, especially in winter.

I remember the jubilation when the vaccine was introduced. Whole families flocked to the local school to get vaccinated, kids first. How did we become so ignorant in recent years?

The smallpox vaccination is the one that appears on your shoulder. They were discontinued sometime in 1972 in Canada (in Ontario at any rate). A friend's child born late in 1971 was vaccinated; my son, born in June of 1972, was not. Some of us don't think 54 or younger is all that old.🫠

Inviting those guests is even more damning than what comes out of Hoekstra's foul mouth. Canadians (my dad among them) liberated Holland, including Hoekstra's family, during WWII, but Hoekstra stands against everything those soldiers fought so hard to achieve.

I wish upon these opponents the sort of suffering people like my mother and grandmother endured before MAID became an option. Alternatively, I wish upon these opponents that a loved one repeatedly begs them to kill her, as my mother did for years. Death is not always the cruelest thing.

Pre-MAID, my mother and grandmother lived in intractable arthritic pain for years before deciding to end their misery by starving. My husband has Alzheimer's and desperately wants to be able to remain some semblance of himself when he dies. Picard is right; to deny dignity in death is cruel.

The fact that almost all Toronto-area Liberal MPs refuse to condemn this expansion suggests to me that they are being muzzled, as Sorbara hints. What happen to being constituents’ voice in Ottawa? Oh, right, Carney never promised any such thing.

My guess is that he's too honest. Says what he thinks, even if it goes against the party line. Shows his feelings, even if doing so is politically disadvantageous. Has the gall to appear ambitious about solving social problems, which people interpret as personal ambition.
