Two years of practice really do make a difference! I revisited a portrait I originally made in 2023 of Brent Spiner as Data (yes, again 😄) to see how far I’ve come. Swipe to see the evolution: Black pencils (2025) - Ecoline markers (2023) - graphite version (2023) – where it all started.

And today, I finished that drawing 🖼️ I completely lost track of time because I was in a flow-state 🌀 It felt right ✨️

Last night, after an overwhelming day 😮‍💨 I really needed to rewind. So I started drawing Data again… But here’s the twist: I used the exact same reference photo I used back in 2011 🕰️📸 I wanted to see how much I’ve grown — not just as an artist, but as a person 🌱💫🧵

I was scared to fail 😅 He meant so much to me… But somehow I pushed through and managed to draw him pretty well 💪🎭 Fast forward to now — I’ve drawn and painted Data a lot over the past few years 🎨🖤 He’s become my ultimate comfort character 🫶 🧵

So here’s a little story 🎨💛 As most of you know, I’ve always been a big fan of Data 🤖✨ (Star Trek). I started drawing portraits when I was about 12 years old — around 1997 🧒✏️ But it wasn’t until 2011 that I finally found the courage to draw Data. 🧵

She's shown so many girls and women that you can be both goth and genius, playful and powerful. A true role model for female scientists everywhere. I used black graphite pencils ✏️ for this one—seemed only fitting for her...

Finally finished portrait #30 in my Book of Faces! ✍️📖 This time, I added Pauley Perrette as Abby from NCIS—because honestly, she had to be in there. 🖤🔬 Abby is smart, quirky, unapologetically herself, and a brilliant scientist in a field often dominated by men. 👩‍🔬✨

What started as a gouache experiment 🎨 (that went totally sideways) somehow found its way back—thanks to a little persistence ✨ and a lot of color! Here’s Data 🤖 again—our favorite colorless android—now boldly lit in purple, starlight ⭐, and neon eyes.

This newest one was done with Mars Lumograph Black pencils. Gorgeous rich blacks, but wow… they’re NOT forgiving. The leads are really hard, so I can’t layer as much as I’d like, and sharpening feels like defusing a bomb 😅 Gotta be super gentle or the paper suffers. 💛

Just a wild thought: A young Brent Spiner would have made a perfect Loki, don’t you think? 😏✨ And Tom Hiddleston as Data? 🤖🤭 Had a few minutes to sketch this out after looking for some references. Not sure if I’ll take this idea further, but it was fun to explore! 🎨 What do you think?
