Zebrafish eye imaged with a confocal microscope at ~70 hours post-fertilization, injected with Texas Red.
The picture described in the post. The anterior chamber of the eye can be seen clearly, while the lens yields a dark spot in the middle of the pupil which looks surprisingly like a pupil itself. The blood vessels close to the trabecular meshwork are visible, enveloping the anterior chamber like a cup.

California’s county lines absolutely mog every other state’s. Near-perfect mix of natural geographic barriers and logical straight lines. Memorable shapes. Large enough that they feel like real geographic subdivisions rather than arbitrary bureaucratic blobs. No notes, really.

Absolutely love the use of the #Peace by my boy Leo. Need to start doing that more often
A tweet by Pope Leo, posted at 6AM PT/1PM GMT:

God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.

Highly recommend this read from Trezy. I think he did a great job recognizing what exactly felt off during the at. report. Not really from the AI itself, but from how it was midhandled in the eyes of the community it was in front of.
An excerpt from @trezy.codes’ writeup on attie:

“Here's what makes this so frustrating: there's context that might have changed the narrative. I've spoken with ecosystem partners who describe thoughtful conversations with Bluesky about avoiding competition, holding off on features specifically to give community projects room to grow. That work is happening behind closed doors.

None of it made it to the stage.

The community didn't hear "we're building this, and here's how we're working with affected projects." They didn't hear "we know this might concern some of you, and here's what we're doing about it." They heard celebration, then competition, then silence.

When I reached out to Bluesky after the conference, I was told they expected this reaction. They knew the announcement would be hard for some in the community. If you expect the reaction and you do it anyway, without providing context, without acknowledging the impact on stage, that's a choice. That's a communication failure at the organizational level.”

it's interesting how New Hampshire is the only state remaining where a state-level party (Republicans in this case) have meaningful breaks in their policies to better appeal to their state. This was the party affiliation of governors back in 2010. Can you *imagine* any map like this today?
A map of governorship party affiliations by state. Notably:
Republican: CA, RI, CT, NJ, VA
Democrat: MT, WY, OK, KS, MO, AR, IA, OH, KY, TN, NC

NYTimes comments section is not fucking around about the war in Iran. Trump has liberals sounding like straight-up tankies, never thought I'd see the day
A comment from H. Clark in the NYTimes comments section for this article:

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/11/world/europe/trump-iran-war-global-impact.html

This war has Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan written all over it, and none of it had to happen. By his own admission, Trump bombed Iran based on his “gut.” That is the most tragic, shortsighted and inane reason for going to war in modern history. Now the world — not just the Middle East — is in utter turmoil. Economies are in tatters, markets are reeling, bodies are piling up. Soon there will be another enormous refugee crisis, with those fleeing Trump’s war heading into Europe. And it can all be traced to three distinct reasons: Trump wants to deflect from his very deep culpability in sexually assaulting teenage girls; his ‘presidency’ is an abject failure in every conceivable regard; and Bibi Netanyahu played Trump for the fool that he is. And now families are grieving, cities and towns are in ruin, and America is universally hated. It will take 1,000 years for any country to embrace us again. Under the Trump theocratic kleptocracy, we are a failed regime that has turned the world upside down needlessly. ‘I alone can fix it.” The fault is ours; we had options. We chose not to exercise them. And here we are, mired in death, destruction and fear, while Trump and his crime family reap the spoils. Shame on us. Apologies to the world no longer matter. The damage is done. Unforgiven.

Reading an old paper from the 80’s and seeing GLP-1 mentioned is like rewatching a series and seeing the forgettable side character that becomes a main character in later seasons
An excerpt from the paper “Cell autonomy of lin-12 Function in a Cell Fate Decision in c. Elegans”:

Functional Similarities among h-12, g/p-l, and Notch

The predicted M-12 protein shares many structural features with the predicted products of the Notch gene of Drosophila (Wharton et al., 1985; Kidd et al., 1988) and the glp-1 gene of C. elegans (J. Yochem, personal communication; J. Austin and J. Kimble, personal communication; A. Fire and J. Priess, personal communication). There are
functional similarities as well. In Drosophila, neurogenesis

You’ve heard of Socialism in One Country…. But have you heard of
A screenshot of an instagram post from the Boston Review, showcasing an article called “Socialism in One City”. The subheading reads “The ultimate test for Mamdani’s vision will be successful governance—and so far, it appears to be working.”

The name “Socialism in One City” is a play on Josef Stalin’s “Socialism in One Country”, an ideology that rejected the internationalist sentiment of other communist movements in favor of a single vanguard.

Did a rewrite of some of the AT Protocol's Wikipedia page. Lots of tweaks here and there, but this is probably the biggest one. I think this is a much more accurate description than the previous one! Hopefully it expands people's conceptions of what is possible with atproto.
A screenshot showing my changes to the lede paragraph of ATProto's Wikipedia page. The old paragraph read:

The AT Protocol (Authenticated Transfer Protocol, pronounced "at protocol", commonly shortened to ATproto or "ATP")[1][2] is a protocol and open standard for distributed social networking services.[3] It is under development by Bluesky Social PBC, a public benefit corporation originally created as an independent research group within Twitter, Inc. to investigate the possibility of decentralizing the service.[4]

The new paragraph reads:

The AT Protocol (Authenticated Transfer Protocol, pronounced "at protocol", commonly shortened to ATproto or "ATP")[1][2] is a protocol and open standard for decentralized publishing of self-certifying data intended for use in the social web.[3][4] It powers the Bluesky social network, which was created as a proof of concept for the protocol, and is the main service in an ecosystem of applications and services built on the AT Protocol referred to as the ATmosphere.[5][6][7]

A screenshot of an interview with a poll respondent for the recent NYTimes/Sienna poll:

“Criminals in the United States that happen to be illegal immigrants, those people need to be deported,” said Jeffrey McGinn, a 55-year-old Republican who works at a health care tech company and lives in Columbia, Tenn. “He’s rounding up soccer moms and trying to ship them out with no due process at all. That is not what America wanted. That’s not what Republicans wanted. The people that voted for Trump did not want that.”A photo of the Republican National Convention in 2024, showing the crowd lifting up signs saying “MASS DEPORTATION NOW”

Daily/weekly active users have been steadily increasing over the course of the past month or so, which is a good sign in this respect I think
0120
Baldemoto🇵🇸 @baldemo.to · 08/01/2026
Unlike previous Elon Musk Events/news stories where activity dissipated very quickly, the AI CSAM scandal from X and... recent events, have had a sticky effect on user activity. Not only are people using Bluesky more in *general* (WAU), but they are also using it *more often* (DAU).
A screenshot showing a chart showing monthly, weekly, and daily active users on Bluesky.

Monthly active users has shown a strong, continued increase from ~5 million to ~5.6 million (as expected, as it hasn't been a month since the first wave).

Daily active users has also increased from ~1.3-1.4 million to ~1.5-1.6 million.

Weekly active users increased from ~2.9 million to ~3.4 million, before decreasing back to ~3.2 million. It has increased again to ~3.3-3.4 million, however, in the week since.

Japanese cluster activity surpassed english cluster activity for a brief moment today during New Year’s! Really exciting to see this growth and diversification away from the English cluster
A graph showing the posts/second for each language on Bluesky. At 12:00 AM/00:00 Japan time, the Japanese cluster reached a peak of ~44 posts/sec, briefly beating the English cluster’s 35 posts/sec. The rate for the Japanese cluster then decays as usual.
