combining keyup/keydown with blur handlers seems to work for me when I alt+tab out (firefox, win10). Just gotta stop any keys that didn't receive their keyup event
let target = document.getElementById("example");

var key_states = {};

function on_keydown(key) {
  key_states[key.code] = true;
  console.log(key_states);
}
function on_keyup(key) {
  key_states[key.code] = false;
  console.log(key_states);
}
function on_blur() {
  key_states = {};
  console.log(key_states);
}

target.addEventListener("keydown", on_keydown);
target.addEventListener("keyup", on_keyup);
target.addEventListener("blur", on_blur);

well, you can start with this. (in a shader it's `render_mode vertex_lighting;`) alternatively you could make it unshaded and use manually painted vertex colors

I think the main problem with using bit-reversal lines is not that they aren't very straight, but that they are intransitive (i.e. lines A->B & B->C != A->C). I think it is literally impossible to have both transitivity and stability. You have to pick one. (it's probably fine though?)
Example showing the intransitivity of BRR lines.
Green line from A to C.
Blue line from A to B, red line from B to C.
Additive overlay of the previous two, showing how the line diverges for the second segment.

After reviewing the blogpost carefully, I actually think the most interesting thing in it has nothing to do with AI. It's this part. I have made issues and proposals, but have only one minor docs PR merged. What happens to my existing PR that adds a QoL feature that also solves real problems?
We will amend our contributing policy to include a prohibition on new features or significant re-factoring from new contributors without explicit permission from maintainers.
This ensures that new contributors take the time to learn the codebase and engage with maintainers to build trust by working on bug fixes and documentation before diving into significant projects. We consider a new contributor to be someone with 3 or fewer merged pull requests.

probably because bevy stated the point more clearly. the casual reader could assume the godot one is allowing certain small uses rather than saying "even YOU might not know you used AI for this, and that's okay we won't hunt you down for that" which is imo more or less what they intended
[^1]: Trivial LLM generated content such as variable renames or autocompleted function calls, often branded "predictions" or "suggestions", that is otherwise indistinguishable from traditional methods such as a regex search/replace or an LSP autocompletion is by definition not detectable and can be treated like other regular IDE tools such as Intellisense. This does not include cases where the prediction generates things like entire function blocks.• No use of Al to generate substantial pieces of code
• We require all code to be human authored.
Al assistance should be limited to menial things (like code completion, regex, or find and replace).

Some people got jobs or worked their way up with portfolio pieces, but in the end this didn't really change the brutal boom-bust cycle of the industry, or give it more stability and broader audiences through cultural prestige or seriousness. So maybe free games, accessible tools, paying some attention to what the rabble are up to, etc, hadn't actually done anything? Of course the industry had enclosed and hoovered up what was amenable to it, but expecting practices, communities and values based on voluntary association and non-commercial exchange to transform your commercial industry into something more sustainable is kind of like expecting some eggs you got from a goose to keep laying eggs.

these techniques are what I'm referring to
merwok • 2020-08-14

The limitations apply to the PNG carts, which are meant to be the released, public versions of games. For development, if you do all your changes in a P8 file, you can always save even if you are over the token limits. (The P8 format also lets you use any text editor, copy/edit sounds, use version control and see differences between versions.) So this workflow should help: develop with a P8, save as PNG to publish.
Another trick is to have all your
debug/ inspection code in a separate lua or p8 file and have '#include debug.lua' at the top of your code, so that you get access to your functions during development (include is like a direct copy of the source code), and you comment the line out and remove all debugging function calls before saving as PNG.
merwok

Previous message only answered your question about limitations for development. If the game itself really needs more data than available, we're talking about over techniques.
• not enough tokens: rework the code in big or small ways to make it shorter
• not enough sprites/sfx/map: encode data as strings, load them at runtime and write them to the right memory section to replace what's there
• still not enough sprites/etc and not enough space in code to encode data as strings: publish only your level 1 on the BBS, make another version using multicart (one cart can load sprites/map/etc from another cart, up to 16 carts), export that to HTML so you can publish the full game on your website or itch dot io

"Model development today is like a big family tree. Most models are related to each other because developers synthesize a lot of training data with models even from different companies," Hamilton told me in an email. He, Mimno, and their colleague Rebecca M. M. Hicke found this in a 2025 paper where they looked at specific words used across models. OpenAl's first ChatGPT model, GPT-3.5, is the root of the family tree because it was used to make WildChat, a training set that's since been used to make other training sets. "WildChat contains 1 million real conversations with ChatGPT, and 166 of these contain the name 'Elias' like here and here," Hamilton added. "These are written in that familiar 'lighthouse' style.
Models trained on WildChat copied this style, and developers unwittingly replicated it when using those models to generate newer datasets. It's like a virus."But with all the world's literature as its training data, why do LLMs seem to default so often to the lighthouse? It comes down to how model makers try to safety-align and sanitize their outputs. "We found many stories in WildChat are not safe for work. This led us to hypothesize that models going through alignment are preferring a small slice of WildChat stories, like a bottleneck," Hamilton said. "It isn't that Elias stories are frequent, but that they're just so safe." He said the researchers plan to explore this theory further in future research.
As for Elias, there is one example l've found of him existing pre-generative Al, as a time traveling mad scientist in the 1980's trading card series Dinosaurs Attack!. And a real-life Elias that comes close to the stories told by LLMs did actually exist, Hamilton found— Elias Allen was a 16th century clockmaker in London.
