Brian McKenna @puffnfresh.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 21/10/2026Vindicated for my absolute refusal to run any #PHP on my #homelab. A few times I've been recommended Grocy and I think maybe I'm being unreasonable. But I just have too much experience with PHP to execute it ever again. 000 0
Brian McKenna @puffnfresh.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 02/10/2026I've used #Meshtastic for years but now there's #MeshCore repeaters all around #Tasmania. I've just added a Wio Tracker L1 to our railway vehicle. Reports the GPS position of the vehicle via MeshCore telemetry back to our headquarters. Not sure if we'll need […] [Original post on mastodon.social] 010 1

Brian McKenna @puffnfresh.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 19/09/2026@bodil "Half-Life Alyx, which is basically a tech demo..." totally lost me there. Amazing game, and in line with the Half Life series, which I guess is a bit about demoing tech, but not in a bad way. But paying $1600AUD to play Alyx again, without wires, would be a waste. 100 1
Brian McKenna @puffnfresh.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 17/09/2026Most of my work at Obsidian Systems is operations related. Nix, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Prometheus, Grafana, etc. to run the Canton Network. It's written in Scala, which I usually don't have to deal with, but yesterday we had an incident from stack overflows and the stack trace exactly fit my area […]mastodon.socialOriginal post on mastodon.social 100 1

Brian McKenna @puffnfresh.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 05/06/2026I've been working on continually exporting #Haskell's stack traces to pprof format, making GHC compatible with existing tools, e.g. Pyroscope, Speedscope, etc. Simple tests give it about a 2% overhead on a silly Scotty/HTTP example app. That brings it in […] [Original post on mastodon.social] 000 0

Brian McKenna @puffnfresh.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 24/05/2026Did 42km (7 trips) on the electric railway lawn mower yesterday. Between each trip I managed to charge the vehicle for about 20 minutes. Started the day with about 80% battery. Ended the day with about 75%. The vehicle has about 12kWh of capacity. Ridiculously large. 100 1
Brian McKenna @puffnfresh.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy · 23/05/2026Yesterday was the public launch of the Launceston & North East Railway's "railbug" rides.
