We were at the comedian Lewis Black’s show several years ago. Hershel Walker was running for Senate. Black said just that name and everyone laughed. Who thinks in the future the phrase President Donald Trump will provoke that reaction?

Canada is respected around the world. Trump is not. Canada embraces two languages and diverse culture. Trump does not. Canada appreciates relationships with democratic countries. Trump does not. Canada has a long, illustrious history. Trump certainly does not and that’s just what he longs for.

There are things wrong with him mentally, physically, emotionally, and what he wants, says and does is abnormal. I don’t want to put labels even if they do fit but deterioration is evident and he needs to be removed before it’s too late to fix.

If the press did become tough, nothing is off the table for Trump’s reaction. Nothing. He can be goaded into saying or doing something that even he couldn’t be excused for. And I for one would relish it.

Being tough means asking questions not easily answered. That’s always been the job of a free press. Some questions need more than a little thought. Trump has never had to nor knows how to answer such a question. So he reacts like a fox with bared teeth and hateful retorts.

Fighting a wrong promotes change. Trump is a stain on American democracy. You have to see a stain to address it. Conway has addressed that stain for a decade. Now his intent is to remove said stain. It will never be totally gone but what’s left will be as insignificant as passing a cognitive test.

We are helpless and there are only 2 ways to cease this nonsense before it worsens. One is to win House and Senate. That may not happen. The other is to have more GOP in Congress listen to their constituents and shop defending the indefensible. That could happen. My wish is for both ways to occur.

Everything we teach kids not to do, is shown every day by who should be a role model for them. I’d love to write a picture book showing Trump in all his glory demonstrating these behaviors on one side and what’s humane on the other. But I fear for my family’s safety and being arrested for treason.

It’s my 83rd birthday today and for the first time ever I distrust our government more than I trust it. Yes, I’ve disliked other administrations, but always felt our Constitution would protect our most respected ideals. I do not feel that way now and it’s very disturbing.
