The only difference between the Liberals and Conservatives now is that the Conservatives are more open about their socially regressive policies. If you are supporting this government you are supporting an extreme right wing economic agenda. #cdnpoli

"We are going to spend billions to build an oil pipeline that will contribute significantly to global warming which is causing wildfires across Canada and will primarily enrich mostly foreign owned oil companies that will use it because we are Canada Strong." < Prime Minister Mark Carney >

Carney said his government “was elected to change things, to build Canada Strong, and we’re doing just that.” I definitely don’t remember him campaigning on a new oil pipeline!! “Investors should know that when Canadians want something built, Canada will get it built.” And when we don’t?

Carney tells Canadians “we have to do this” (??) because there’s an energy crisis on three fronts. One of those fronts, he says, is climate change. Which is why we need………a new crude oil pipeline???????

Today I learned Jane Doe wasn't even refunded her tuition when she was forced to drop out and deal with the overwhelming physical, mental, and spiritual violence that these 57 animals and the probable rapists in Cornell admin brushed off.
Post by existennialmemes:

The men who assaulted that woman at Cornell should, not only be arrested, but lose their degrees. The staff members who knew of their crimes and assigned them an essay as "punishment" for their violence should be arrested for obstructing justice, fired, their credentials revoked, and be permanently blacklisted from working in education ever again.

Their victim should have her entire tuition repaid, and the school should be liable for all of her legal & medical costs, including therapy.

And that's just what should have happened immediately after the incident came to light.

I doubt any of those things will actually happen though, because this country is run by ghouls. But if this were a rational world, committing such acts of unspeakable violence would ruin your life forever, as it so rightfully should.

The reduction of politics to voting is part of the 50 year neoliberal project whose foremost goal is to make you think of yourself as an atomized individual and not as a member of a polity.

Post 2025 election. "As Chantal Hebert noted during CBC’s election night coverage, “I think this is what it looks like when you have a two-party system.” The results of this election demonstrate, once again, that Canada’s archaic voting system is failing voters." www.fairvote.ca/29/04/2025/c...

This is what a two party system looks like
Canada’s voting system is failing voters. Many voted strategically, motivated to block the other side from winning. The results leave us more divided than ever and closer to a two-party system.

I think it's ill-advised and anti-democratic to introduce an omnibus bill, cite a crisis, and rush major changes to labour and environmental law. It's going to provoke aggressive resistance and risks, ironically, slowing down the projects the government is so keen on. It's going to be a huge mess.

That shows the authoritarian character of Carney's government. He's popular because he's presented himself as Captain Canada fighting against Trump's efforts to take over our country. But we don't have a country if our key assets are controlled by private interests, especially foreign corporations.

“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.” Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life. Common sense. Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.

It’s a bit odd to talk about potential costs when in reality nobody has *any* idea what Carney actually has in mind, I can’t remember a single time in the past 50 years where one man was given such latitude to determine Canada’s future in the absence of *any* public debate or discussion.

There are costs for Mark Carney’s closer ties with Europe
There could be a political cost in addition to the financial price tag for Canada’s proposed “unique alliance” with the European Union.
