Though not noted in this article, this is where professional Chaplains are of great value. Clinically trained, and competent to honor both the indigenous traditions that have held sacred substances and the participants' own beliefs/spirituality.

There is a deep evidence base demonstrating the presence of "mystical-type" experience with psychedelics and strong support for this as a mediating factor in clinical improvements. This comes with benefits and risks that need to be addressed. But they don't even mention it.

Love yourself and the people around you enough to manage fear well. Allow it to be a helpful signal without allowing it to run your life. Watch the media you consume - when it makes you feel afraid, ask if the fear serves you well or if it's being manipulated. Be the chooser in how you respond.
