Really didn't buy the romance between the two leads. But that's a lot of stories. One boy and one girl so they have to be arbitrarily in love. Glad they don't just suddenly act like a couple at the end, at least.

I actually managed to get a Ghibli movie into three Hallow Weeks this month. Unfortunately, there's no Ghibli vampire movie. Also no zombie movie as far as I know. Maybe the goopy demon forms the god animals take could have counted as zombies, Iunno.

As soon as the dad opened his mouth I recognized Sean Bean's voice and figured he was gonna be a dead dad soon. But he wasn't! I think this is the second film I've watched this year with Sean Bean surviving 'til the end. (maybe. I didn't retain much of Jupiter Ascending, honestly...)

I think my biggest problem with the movie is that the recurring Fearless Hero song kinda sucks shit? Which is a shame. The music is otherwise pretty good.

I like that Jack Horner's magic artifact collection includes the Hand of Midas from the third Aladdin movie. And the Excalibur with the Stone still attached is also a gag in I think one of the GBA or DS Castlevanias? Or maybe in Terraria...? It's in some game.

I enjoyed all the antagonists, I enjoyed the weirdly Mario-esque magic forest (or perhaps Kirby-esque?), I enjoyed Puss's character development. And I appreciate that we acknowledged that Shrek exists without messing with the vibes.

The implication that Abby's unnamed helper was a kid like Owen really undercuts Abby and Owen's relationship. Now it just feels like she's grooming him to be her next minion. Which I guess plays into the book's theme of exploring child abuse, a lot of which was cut out of both movies, but still
