This is not a big deal in a portable monitor like AirSpot, it is not a laboratory instrument! Whether the real CO2 level is 3000 ppm or 4000 ppm the action is the same, find a spot with more fresh air and wear a respirator.

Aranet 4 includes a barometer which corrects for pressure. The Sensirion photoacoustic sensor does not include a barometer for pressure adjustment. If a device (like AirSpot) is calibrated at the top of a mountain, it will then read correctly at that height. But it will read low in a plane.

Planes are typically pressurised to 1,000 metres which is about 75% of pressure at sea level so readings will be 25% low. So you need to add about 33% to the reading to get the right value.

The reduction is linearly proportional to pressure, so reducing the pressure by 10% will reduce the CO2 molecule count by 10%. The CO2 concentration is unchanged, because all the gases are effected the same. At say 1,000m above sea level, pressure is about 10% less and it will read about 10% low.

As the altitude increases and pressure drops, there will be less CO2 molecules in a given volume of air inside the sensor, so the reading will be an under-estimate of the actual CO2 concentration.

My back-of-the-envelope calculation tells me the cost of installing 100KWh of battery (enough to power the house for several days) for every home in Australia would be about $30BN a year for 10 years, about what Australia is proposing to spend on a few nuclear powered submarines of dubious worth.
