All of the Haydn symphonies are bangers. But you have to be in the right state of mind to receive them.

Time to repost this: From mutable-states.com/aieeek.html

Thinking that these systems are appropriate for being the main producer of actually creative work is, as I said before, insulting and idiotic. It is also mostly suffering from the fallacy that the final artifact is what matters instead of the final artifact's relationship to the people who made it and the people who will use, read, listen, watch, and otherwise absorb it into their human selves. The only creative works that are actually valuable are the things that have these connections as their both their origin and their destination.
Everything else is just bullshit.

I have gripes with how Turning Machine were described, at least twice. But I am an overly pedantic meatbag. The rest is a fairly authentic point of view. One can quibble about some of the details, but probably not the larger POV.

The new macOS "traffic light" window buttons look so out of place because they are tactile and easy to visually parse and hit with the mouse, unlike almost every other piece of the "let's make the whole UI flat and inscrutable" hellscape that it has evolved to in the last 15 years.

IMHO you can't leave out the stuff Xerox PARC did. They never had any direct commercial success but there was no more influential software work done in the last 50 years. Smalltalk, Mesa, Cedar, and Xerox Star defined how computers would work from the late 80s until now.

NYTimes posts 1000 words on how to "tame" phone notifications. All they needed to say was: 1. Turn them all off. 2. Turn on the 2 or 3 kinds you don't want to miss. That's it.

Wonderful essay by Matilde Marcolli on what math really is, and how math accidentally reduced itself to narrow zero-sum goals, paving the way for the AI bros to bray about nothing of value and have it appear significant. Math is not computer science. www.its.caltech.edu/~matilde/AIm...
