Is it just me, or does Sen. Schmitt (R-Schmitt’s Creek) give off a strong Frank Drebin vibe?

Rather than being regarded for his accomplishments, Trump, like every other despot, will be reviled for the damage he did and the lengthy efforts necessary to repair it. Some legacy, huh?

I’m not even remotely a fan of Iran, but they do have a point. The US and Israel savagely attacked them, deliberately killing their leaders (a war crime) and causing billions in damage. Serious peace negotiations can’t begin until the men who perpetrated this, Trump and Netanyahu, are gone.

I’ve been aware of politics since the early 50s, and can tell you the Republican Party has always sung the same song: the preservation of the status quo for those whom it benefits the most. Racism, patriarchy and xenophobia always have been present in some form or another.

Murdoch’s creation of Fox News merely was an opportunistic response to a national decline already in progress. There’s no doubt it accelerated that process.

It seems to me, if the Republicans take the kind of Trump-induced ass-kicking that appears to be coming in the midterms, they just might decide it’s in their long-term interest and that of the party to join Democrats in impeaching him and then possibly have a shot at redemption going forward.

Imagine for a moment that a corruptly partisan Supreme Court had not installed George W. Bush in the presidency and 9/11 occurred on Al Gore’s watch. Nobody can say for certain, but I have many reasons to believe this world would be a lot better place than it is today.

Unmentioned in the discussion of his ballroom is the price of operating it. A 90,000 sq. ft. building must be heated, cooled, lit and constantly maintained. Every event will require hundreds of staff- food, entertainment, security and cleanup- at a cost of millions. To whom? You and me, of course.

Surreal as it sounds, the 2028 presidential campaign begins right after the midterms. I'm watching for a candidate who will promise to restore the White House to its rightful state of dignity. We all know exactly what that means: total erasure of his vandalism.

The violence and terror being perpetrated by ICE is as unnecessary as it is deliberate. While we all know a rational, humane immigration policy would be much cheaper and more effective, his real goal is to create a force of heavily armed storm troopers answerable only to himself.

“The system is broken.” No. Systems don’t break; they work exactly as designed. Well-meaning men created our current system as a reflection of their own limitations, building racism, poverty, and inequality into its DNA. Sadly this system is not fixable; it’s time to build a new one.

Here’s a modest suggestion to help repair the country: put real teeth into the Emoluments Clause and the Hatch Act. Of course, neither will happen until we have a functioning Congress and an independent DOJ, both of which at this point seem like distant dreams.

Had our feckless, irresolute President simply continued Biden’s support for Ukraine, that war likely would be over. Instead, it threatens to escalate, with Russia now threatening Germany. All of this for Trump’s stupid grudge against Zelenskyy for refusing to knuckle under to his extortion.

The Venezuela oil deal is a classic Trump scam: by the time people realize the amount of oil was wildly inflated and the impossibly optimistic timeline hid the fact years would pass before the first drop flowed, he and his friends will have gotten out, taken the money and screwed the Venezuelans.

Citizens United created a new class of politicians, installed by big money and, once elected, expected to serve solely the interests of those who put them there. This accounts for Congress’ indifference to real issues facing the country- the economy, war, corruption, health care & the environment.

Right out of the shopworn Republican playbook: entice big corporations with lavish tax breaks, low wages, deregulation and no unions. The result: these states devolve into bleak, awful places no one wants to live, as Wisconsin eventually found out under Scott Walker. TX and FL FA, now they’ll FO.

I think one of the most popular items on the 2028 Democratic platform would be restoring decorum and dignity to the White House. It would begin by tearing down that godforsaken ballroom and rebuilding the East Wing.

The founders never could have predicted a Congress owned by corporations or a Supreme Court that equates money with speech. It’s not the Constitution that needs fixing, it’s the radical reinterpretation by the right wing.
