I started croquet last year, something to take me away from the writing desk for a few hours each week. I started with ‘golf’ croquet (GC); this year I have spent some time learning ‘association’ croquet (AC). On Sunday our team won comp Brisbane South (Div 2). On Saturday, this: ⬇️🤭 What’s next?

They only eat a few of the couple of hundred species. I occasionally get them in the trees in my backyard, the leaves are pretty straight. 😊🐨

Some were also started apparently to help feed the koalas that started arriving in the 1980s as part of diplomatic exchanges. I came across these ones in YumenoShima Park near Tokyo Bay on one of my walks.

Today, a walk around the island, coming to terms with the life and hardships of Japanese labourers in the 19th and early 20th centuries. 今日の主な目的は木曜島にある日本人のお墓を参ります。明治時代から昭和の初期までその労働者の苦労を少し理解できるようになりました。その他の風景も観ました。

Concert incoming… I’m a bit busy with necessary practice for one particular, rather famous piece where the bass clarinet soars above the orchestra. It’s both challenging and slightly anxiety-inducing. Usually the bass cl just sits in the background, growling in the engine room. 🎶

After starting three and a half years ago as a little project to get out and about more and take breaks from work, I’ve finally completed the 277km network of walks on the outskirts of Tokyo, the ‘Musashino no Michi’. It’s been quite the outer suburban adventure by an outer suburban type.🤭 武蔵野の路、完歩❗️

Counting is very different in Japan compared with Australia. So 90 minutes into the formal counting (compared with the exit poll forecasts at 8:00pm, the LDP has 247 seats, the Chudo alliance just 28.
