I think it's still fun to spend time on, the abandoned mall vibe suits me fine, my art does well there and I make new friends sometimes!

It is jarring to me to see short little jibe type posts on a Tumblr format Tumblr is meant for long-format type cruelties its like seeing an invasive species.

It does seem funny that when twitter started boiling over the mean girl twitter users tended to go more to tumblr while the kind of dorky types went to bsky I guess it makes sense.

Metaphor helps to universalize and make things legible, but I tend to think that what interests me are specifics that would be difficult to retain.

If I were to confront traumatic experiences I've had in art I wouldn't want to cloak them in metaphor I would want to be painfully literal even if it wouldn't be tasteful.

with the "first media that scared you as a child" i was tempted to answer "little bunny foo foo" because i was deeply troubled by the permanent transformation wrought upon foo-foo for merely bopping the field mice on the head, but i was thrilled by the lethal, protracted revenge of the tailypo...

A "fun" fact is that for a good chunk of the history of the medium, it was normal for comic authors to not be credited in any way. A notable example: for a long time Carl Barks was known only to fans as "the good duck artist"

He does not make the same image "larger and worse," any more than a portrait or a landscape is a "larger and worse" version of a person or a place.

It is unjust that Lichtenstein's treatments of these images allowed him to attain a financial security that the original artists did not, but it is not his injustice, and he does no wrongdoing in his engagement with them.

The gross exploitation of the artists who produced the images he worked from is the fault of the publishers who employed or contracted work from them. The reflexive distaste for his taking up of these images is inextricable from that same regime of exploitation centered in intellectual property.

That album art was done by a different artist, Gabríela Friðriksdóttir, but my parents told me that bjork drew all of it herself so I imagined these were the creatures this music was about.

Prudence AnaGRIM @pruplace.neocities.org · 05/10/2026
There was no other electronic music in my environment growing up which was mostly early music and Lilith fair stuff so bjork's sounds were very alien, the lyrics about emotional states and struggles that are hard to understand as a child and the art was like this I felt a kinship to these creatures

It doesn't help that there actually isn't a snappy word for a "disgusting thin film or coating of grime" so I think about this all of the time because so many surfaces and even creatures in the world are covered in such and so it is burrowed in deeper and deeper and deeper

Prudence AnaGRIM @pruplace.neocities.org · 05/10/2026
In my head the word "élan" means "a distasteful thin film or coating of grime" even though that has literally nothing to do with the actual definition of the word I must have bungled a context clue somewhere and cemented this bizarre thing into my brain
