I’ve cut a lot of crap out of my life the last year (must delete this app by 10PM tonight because damn I may have been better without it) and by far the best type of mindset/echo chamber I’ve cut out is “repeat ‘shit’s bad!’ over and over til no one can compel me to make positive change. I am 12.”

The “why try” outlook BTW is absolutely what capitalism wants you to do! A lot of people who think Being Mad Online is activism think that anti capitalism starts and ends at hating their job; engaging in community **exclusively** online is what tech giants want you to do.

As I said before I left this app (and probably will again lol) I like a healthy dose of cynicism without going full-force into doomerism. I also think people (unknowingly) use doomerism to justify the decisions they’re already making and don’t realize how addictive the “why try” outlook is

No one wants to say it but I’d bet at LEAST half of people who cry “we can’t build community because we have no third spaces!” 1) can’t name a third space that isn’t “park” or “library” 2) never go to the nearest park or library anyway 3) don’t volunteer with youth groups or go to church

If you asked me after first term, maybe even second, what Trudeau's legacy image would be, I'd say a guy who could help people find common ground. And if he'd be remembered as better or worse than he was, I'd say the former. Since 2021, it's been the opposite; he was a symbol of a divided nation.

-Back to federally: it's cynical, and this isn't my personal belief, but politicians often see recession as a good thing. Especially when they're emerged from through short-term, fast gratification (IE a renewed trade agreement that deepens our dependence on the US rather than diversifying).
