The 2028 Matt Brash RP to SP conversion is going to hit like crack.

In all, I don’t think Francis is a mirage, but I think his run to end the season is close to his ceiling unless he adds a pitch or better improves his breaking pitches. If you enjoyed this, please give a like and some RTs I’ll do a lot more of this on the way to Spring Training!

The usage plots of his Curve and Slider show good location but I think a cutter could help improve the arsenal as it will play off Francis’s 4S and Splitter velocity wise.

So about 30% of the pitches thrown by Francis gave up pretty good contact. He can benefit from throwing a pitch that can hit the inside corner against RHBs or dive away from LHBs.

prspctvibecheck.bsky.social @prspctvibecheck.bsky.social · 31/01/2025
Francis’s arsenal can use some work: The FB/SP combo works terrifically, but the breaking pitches aren’t as great. Batters hit .308 against his curve and .250 against his slider. The curve was used 18.2% of the time while the slider was used 9.2% of the time.

So Francis got pretty lucky over that stretch, but it also doesn’t seem to suggest that he’s going to implode into a 4.50+ ERA player this year. However, Savant’s comps for Francis in 2024 are less appealing:

prspctvibecheck.bsky.social @prspctvibecheck.bsky.social · 31/01/2025
So this would seem to indicate that some of Francis’s success was earned (and it was!) but there were some issues under the hood. Francis’s ERA over that run was 1.80, but the FIP and xFIP were 3.78 and 3.89 respectively. Additionally he had a 95.5 LOB% during that time.
100
prspctvibecheck.bsky.social @prspctvibecheck.bsky.social · 31/01/2025
From 7/29 through 9/24, Francis made 10 starts with a 1.80 ERA, striking out 58 batters while walking just 8. That stretch also had 2 no-hit bids get spoiled in the 9th and included 5 games with a K/9 > 1. Francis also kept his walks in check with just a 1.11 B/9 over that run

prspctvibecheck.bsky.social @prspctvibecheck.bsky.social · 31/01/2025
In 2024 Francis primarily pitched in long relief before getting a chance to crack the rotation fully on 7/29/24 in a start against the Baltimore Orioles. He delivered 5 innings with 2Ks and 1BB while giving up 3ER. That start began Francis’s hero ball stretch.

Bowden Francis was a 7th round pick in the 2017 draft out of Chipola JC (home of Cam Collier too!) so his path to fantasy relevance wasn’t pre-ordained. He appeared in 20 games for the Jays in 2023 tossing 36IP before his breakout in 2024.

Bowden Francis was a league winner for a whole lot of teams with his performance down the stretch, so naturally the question is: can he keep it up in 2025? The answer: Probably, but there’s reasons for concern. A thread on one of the biggest heroes of the 2025 season 🧵:

Higher touted prospects like Paulino Santana, Braylin Morel, and Yeremi Cabrera, all failed to get stateside assignments in their debut year. For those of you who have been following this account for a while you’ll know, when a team tells you how they value a player, listen.

6’3” 165lbs (accurate based on footage I’ve seen). Has a frame to add muscle though. Hit 377/482/415 in his pro debut & swiped 10 bags (albeit inefficiently). While he’s not quite on the Walcott Exp., it wouldn’t be crazy to see him go to Hi-A to start the year if the Rangers really like him.

Going to just hop back on the timeline for a second. Why the f—k is no one talking about Yolfran Castillo as a pick to surge up boards this upcoming season. The Rangers were super aggressive with his assignment (pushed from DSL to ACL in debut year) and he’s performed well!

Love the Adley call, slightly worried about the long term impacts of the wrist injury, as those tend to linger even past off-seasons. That said, I think he’s in for a banger 2025 where he returns to dynasty C1

Ironically it’s because I think a lot of guys who could/have played SS at the MILB level don’t project to stay there, in conjunction with a lot of young talent coming up recently. Holliday/Merrill/Caminero all position swapped in the majors. Mauricio, Triantos, Amador, Shaw, Arroyo, House in MILB

I’m notably a diehard baseball fan, but I’m trying to get more into hockey prospecting. Does anyone have a good introductory source for that? Bonus points if they have info particularly on the NY Rangers.

I’m surprised that Vukovich was left unprotected, but I’d also be fascinated to see who would conceivably gamble on him. I can’t envision him getting a ton of time on a MLB roster. Feels like he’d be a DDLS type wager.

I believe that Veen could potentially make the Opening Day roster for the Rockies now as a PPI eligible prospect. Great blend of tools. The power has shown in fits and starts over the course of his MILB career, but I believe that’s symptomatic of injuries not talent. I’d buy this offseason.

This is a sneaky good deal for the Mariners who have been absolutely starved for hitting prowess at the 2B and 3B spots.

Basallo struggled a bit in his 21 AAA games, but he is *19* years old. A measly 7.3 years younger than average. Basallo could genuinely be the top prospect in the game. He SMOKED AA (289/355/465 w/16HR). Basallo is going to be a killer for a long time. Buy at whatever value.

prspctvibecheck.bsky.social @prspctvibecheck.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Basallo (BAL, 1B/C) was knocking on the door for a promotion. The O's have a ton of talent so he may struggle to get up there initially, much like Coby Mayo, but given how tired Adley looked this year, I think the O's may welcome the chance to have someone spell him. (cont'd)

Much like Wyatt Langford there are going to be some hiccups. If someone values Crews as a T10 prospect still, that's fine I would still buy at that value. His 792OPS in the minors gives a sense of what the floor could look like. He'll continue to improve. (cont'd)

These last two are cheating somewhat: Dylan Crews and Samuel Basallo. I think Crews's slow start in the majors may have taken some shine off, it shouldn't have. There's a reason he was a top pick out of LSU and he's been pushed pretty aggressively. (cont'd)

Demetrio Crisantes (AZ, 2B): DC simply hit, and hit, and then hit some more. 333/429/478. The power isn't elite, but there's upside based on how much he hits the ball. DC may start the year in A+ and if the production matches what he put together between the ACL/A he's going to be a FAST mover.

Smith has been another helium candidate who hasn't fully entered the conversation as one of the top prospects in baseball for reasons I don't quite understand, but he has all the tools to be a fantasy mainstay for years to come. Some lists have him in the ~70-120, I have him T30.

prspctvibecheck.bsky.social @prspctvibecheck.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Aidan Smith (TB, OF): Smith joined TB as part of the Arozarena deal. Smith was an overslot signee and has great tools across the board. 288/401/473 slash in A-ball with 11HR and 41SB in his first full season of pro-ball.

As an added note, I do not think the Dodgers would actually slow play Hope. Unlike other top prospects who had issues defensively (Busch, Vargas, Pages, etc.) Hope has a more well rounded profile of skills which makes me believe he'd avoid stalling out in AAA.

Zyhir Hope (LAD, OF): The current AZFL darling is going to get a lot of helium through the winter and into the spring. I am comfortable buying on that helium regardless. Elite tools. Great org. He may get slow played, but I am more than willing to wait.

Yes it was the DSL, but a 331/458/554 with 6HR/28SB an 18% BB rate and a 13% K rate in system known for pushing talent aggressively? If he skips the ACL (which MIL has done for their best prospects) the price is going to jump.

prspctvibecheck.bsky.social @prspctvibecheck.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Jesus Made (MIL, SS). At present he could be valued anywhere in the top 100 of a list and it would make sense to me. I think that he's a great value at any price below a T10 prospect. MIL has a great history with developing high upside internationals. I am trying to buy Made everywhere. Cont’d.

First off: Sebastian Walcott. This may seem like a no-brainer, but the track record of players who advanced through the minors as aggressively with tools this loud is actually quite good. The fact he's already in AA means he could be in the majors by the end of 2025.

It's not quite the offseason, but one thread I wanted to start for the offseason was players/prospects I am comfortable buying "high" on. Some of these guys may have elevated costs that could be hard to swallow now, but could end up looking like discounts long term:
