Diagram demonstrating axial twist theory in three steps: 1. The embryo turns on its left side. 2. The anterior head region develops further in the same direction, whereas the rest of the body develops oppositely. 3. Bilateral symmetry is regained, but with the anterior head turned around. Note, that the heart (and other organs) retain their original orientation, as there is no evolutionary pressure for internal symmetry.

"I am the light you saw, mind, your god," he said, "who existed before the watery nature that appeared out of darkness. The lightgiving word who comes from mind is the son of god." "Go on," I said.

oh there's also this interstitial version between 2015 and 2020, which is likely unusable but really funky to look at.
2018 version of the player action mat for the game, working title 'Quicksilver Engine,' featuring symbols for Sulphur, Salt, and Smoke, as well as Mace, Thistle, and Yarrow. Bubbles are present next to each main action section, suggesting players might fill in bubbles as they play the game. Additionally, there's two sections for text: Items, and Notes.

i've been working on a ttrpg inspired by the board game Eclipse, specifically its energy system. it's gone through a couple public playtests locally and it has accumulated a lot over time, gone through a couple name changes, but it's been going since about 2014. one day i might just release it lol
2014 version of the player action mat for the game, working title 'Modularity,' featuring energy tracks for three statistics: Physique, Poise, and Psyche. Additionally, there's an initiative track and slots for each stat to allow players to place action tokens. Finally, there's an Exhaustion Pool for spent action tokens.2015 version of the player action mat for the game, working title 'Forging Quicksilver,' featuring energy tracks with symbols indicating Physique, Poise, and Psyche. Additionally, there's a section labeled Power Gauge, slots for players to place action tokens for each stat symbol, and a section called the Fatigue Pool for players to place spent action tokens.2020 version of the player action mat for the game, working title 'Quicksilver Engine,' featuring energy tracks with symbols indicating Sulphur, Salt, and Smoke, as well as related symbols for Mace, Thistle, and Yarrow. Six sided dice symbols indicate locations for players to place dice from dice pools.

canonically in D&D 3E, forgers have no way of knowing how good their work is
Excerpt from the Dungeons and Dragons Third Edition Player's Handbook that reads as follows: The DM makes your check secretly so you’re not sure how good your forgery is. As with Disguise, you don’t even need to make a check until someone examines the work. This Forgery check is opposed by the person who examines the document to check its authenticity. That person makes a Forgery check opposed to the forger’s. The reader gains bonuses or penalties to his or her check as described in the table below.

so i guess like a sorcerer guild could just figure out a definitive phylogeny of all animals to at least the family level? dope
Speak with Animals of Its Type: The familiar can communicate with animals of approximately the same type as itself (including dire variants): bats and rats with rodents, cats with felines, hawks and owls and ravens with birds, snakes with reptiles, toads with amphibians, weasels with creatures of the mustelidae family (weasels, minks, polecats, ermines, skunks, wolverines, and badgers). The communication is limited by the Intelligence of the conversing creatures.

i don't think that's how poetry works, d&d 3e
Excerpt from the Dungeons and Dragons Third Edition Player's Handbook that reads as follows: Heading: SORCERER, Body text: Sorcerers create magic the way a poet creates poems, with inborn talent honed by practice. They have no books, no mentors, no theories—just raw power that they direct at will.

it seems like most criticism hits on the first two paragraphs on page 5 of the Blades in the Dark book, but kinda just ignores the third. i feel like this should be bolded and put in the center of the next page or something.
This book is a distillation of best practices and useful elements. It’s one leg of the tripod that forms the basis for successful play: The book, your group, and the online community. Roleplaying is a social and performative art form, and as such,
it benefits greatly from recorded videos of play and active online communities of discussion. If something about the game feels elusive to you, jump on YouTube and watch another group do it and maybe that will make it click. We all learn in different ways. This text is most useful for people who learn by reading. The online communities are good for people who learn by discussion. And videos are good for more auditory or social learners.

i’ve been rereading the D&D 3E Player’s Handbook for a project i’m working on and i just encountered this bit in the Bardic Knowledge DC table. now imagining the world's most powerful bard, running a shop full of the most dogshit boring magic trinkets that only they could possibly know about
A screenshot from the Dungeons and Dragons Third Edition Player's Handbook, showing the last row in the Bardic Knowledge Difficulty Class table. An highlight shows that knowing the history of a petty magic item has a Difficulty Class of 30. Full text is as follows: DC: 30, Type of Knowledge: Extremely obscure, known by very few, possibly forgotten by most who once knew it, possibly known only by those who don't understand the significance of the knowledge. Example: A mighty wizard's childhood nickname; the history of a petty magic item.

i feel like more people should see H. P. Lovecraft's self-portrait.
A self-portrait of Lovecraft, sent to his aunt in a letter. He is depicted with an intentionally silly peruke style wig and frock with a ruff. He is positioned in the center of a circle. A plaque underneath reads "H. Lovecraft Esq. A 1715". Two small figures are sitting on the top of the circle, one playing a harp in a flowing cloak and the other playing a pan flute; the second one is likely a satyr. Two winged horsed are depicted mid-gallop on the bottom.

Really delighted this got an honorable mention on the Hot Bus Wheels art challenge for #desertbus2025 #desertbus
A bus with a sick airbrushed painting on the side. The painting depicts a strange teddy bear faced figure riding a pink lined pegasus across an alien desert while a storm rages under a backdrop of a twin moon rise. The pegasus bears a Desert Bus Alpha Flight sigil stamped on its hindquarters. It also wears a necklace with an air freshener with eyes and a horrible open mouth.

A crop of The Sack of Rome in 410 by the Barbarians by Joseph-Noël Sylvestre, 1890, showing a naked man putting a rope around the neck of a statue, ready to pull it down. A speech bubble is added to humorously indicate the quoted post is being spoken by the man.
