The Federal government gives BC $194 million annually to treat rare diseases. Medications are not just for curing diseases but to alleviate suffering and improve quality of life. If the drug was $1 the committee would never have been involved. vancouversun.com/news/member-...
She also took exception to the narrative that the decision in Pollock’s case was based on the cost of the drug, roughly $800,000 a year, rather than its ability to provide Pollock with an improved quality of life.

The BCCDC is conducting a survey on Long Covid in the province. They ask whether Long Covid was diagnosed by a healthcare provider, which could underestimate the prevalence. Share your thoughts! Survey 🔗 ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...?

Vancouver, BC today 🍁 Long COVID is real. These pillow cases tell the heartbreaking stories of some of the over 3.5 million Canadians who were previously healthy now suffering from this debilitating disease with over 100, 000 people unable to work. Governments need to help them now.

They won the Nobel prize for their work developing Covid vaccines and they wore masks to receive their prizes - even after the advent of the vaccine they developed. They are demonstrating that they understand that layering protections works better against infection than any one measure. Bravo!

So despite the welcome return of masks to many health care settings, both the PHO and the Minister of Health persist in spreading misinformation & minimizing risk. So why did they give us such a strong mask rule? Only 2 of BC's 5 health regions reliably report hospital outbreaks. Here's 1 of them:
Fraser Health Authority:
Outbreaks declared in 4 major FH hospitals, all in acute care, all Covid-19. This means transmission happening within each unit, where patients are already by definition extremely sick.

Lastly, why are the Ministry of Health, MInister @adriandix and PHO Bonnie Henry offloading the responsibility for requiring masking onto healthcare workers, and not having the courage to wear it themselves? #bcpoli

"So in effect, anti-maskers will now blame frontline healthcare workers for healthcare masking policies, whereas before such blame would have been directed at the MOH/PHO.

A blanket directive requiring masking in all healthcare settings would have avoided this." https://bc.ctvnews.ca/continuous-masking-returning-to-b-c-hospitals-clinics-care-homes-1.6580288

Public health authorities are *already* hauling out this discredited theory again. Here it is in a disguised form: the C-19 immunity task force blaming RSV on the pandemic. Perhaps RSV spiking *is* due to the pandemic, but not due to "immunity debt"? www.covid19immunitytaskforce.ca/british-colu...
"The increase in RSV severity outcomes, including need for intensive care respiratory therapies and longer lengths of stay, seen at the only paediatric hospital in British Columbia suggests belated severity trends that may be related to a loss of RSV seasonality during the pandemic."

What would it take? We will have a go. "Immunity debt" is the false theory that people (esp kids) got so sick last fall because for a very brief period early in the pandemic they were somewhat protected from viruses like RSV due to masks & to schools closing. It's poppycock. Here's why. 1/x
