I don't know but hopefully this lady gets to wave on the sidelines.

"Byrony Page, who just won Olympic God for trampolining, studied paleontology and wrote her dissertation on acoustic signaling in dinosaurs"

picture: a smiling white woman with her brown hair in bun wearing a gymnastics leotard smiling with her hands on her head.

text: "Becoming a dinosaur scientist and winning a gold medal for jumping on the trampoline, don't tell any 7 year old their dreams are out of reach"

the discourse has been fun in that I've learned a lot... by this point polytropos feels like an english word. they are also subtweeting in verse now:

tweet by A.V Marraccini: "new rule, i do discourse in blank verse, you have to reply in blank verse ONLY, God help the poetic impulses spurred by grading duty"

Bad translations for Polytropos
(on not looking into Chapman's Homer)
(thanks a lot Christopher Nolan)

So, Emily Wilson uses blank verse,
Chapman uses blank verse, and anyway
We were all told Helen was in Egypt
A while ago, but here we go again,
Local assholes, the men who hate women,
People particularly invested
In the purported whiteness of the Greeks,
We get that you are mad, sputtering out
Discurses, the mask of of Agamemnon
Was named that by Schliemann, to early,
Slagheap archeology, the internet Never Forgets many turning Bullshit

twitter user du cote de chez rob responds
"It frightens me that Roman Helmet Guys
hear nothing of "pilcare ("fold" or "weave")
in "complicated"; not content to dwell
upon this rather elegant pentameter
that catches more than nothing of the loom
that waits at home, whose movements we, perhaps,
are meant to see as counterparts domestic
to husbandly seafaring machinations;
always suspicious of the circumspect
and feminine intelligence that drives
so much of epic movement. What a shame. "

Dear Bluesky...you should not have to miss out on how the argument on twitter over how "polytropos" in Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey has reached the point that glorious nerds are responding in blank verse.

interesting--. once read a book about James Madison and he and Dolly were visiting Jefferson and Madison writes in his diary about meeting on of Jefferson's enslaved children. its wild. It is just a casual day to them... the quest for good history never ends (part of the fun) reminds me of this.

screen shot of a tweet that says "a picture of me shortly after a drunk patient called me a yellow fuck in my new scrubs which I mean fair but also wow" the woman (who goes by the handle Dr. Spooky) (white, glasses, dark pulled back hair) is head to toe in light yellow scrubs and has a slightly frowny face (but in good fun)

other than its cover (which is fantastic) why does this book have such a chokehold on social media when Butcher's Crossing (one of the top 5 Westerns I've ever read) is right there? If you have read it...did you like it? and why?

book cover of Stoner by John Williams...it is of a painting of a middle aged brown haired white man with full white collar and tie and old fashioned suit complete with vest and pocket watch with his hands in his vest pockets looking down at the ground

Read this in a review of a book I just finished (Chris Petit's The Psalm Killer --fantastic read!). ...and this is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Chloe Zhao's interpertation of Hamnet. The book does a similar thing. hides in plain sight. Can't wait to see it translated on the Screen.

the semblance of a continuity or plot emerging only in the edit, this being as true of daily news as of a Jason Statham vehicle. Authorial sleights of hand allowed by moving pictures – all that visual background to hide details in; the fleeting blink-and-miss-it nature of the medium itself – cannot be replicated in prose fiction, where there is no background beyond the flat surface of the words, and where those words stay frozen on their paper screen allowing for examination. Text requires its own illusionist’s devices.

after she makes this block...AB gets the ball then passes it back to Clark...who launches it down 3/4ths of the court over 3 defenders to Sophie Cuningham's fingertips for a fever layup. I just want them to be happy and make all the money.

Caitlin Clark of the Fever in the dark blue uniform with light electric blue shoes with her leg up and as close to the Wing's player (in their white uniform) as you can be without fouling and about a foot in the air blocks the ball as the Wings player tries and shoots a jumper. AB is there to recover the ball. the crowd is in the background ..also ABs shoes look nice they are black on the very top with yellow bottoms with a stripe of black.

watched A Thousand Blows immediately after finishing Adolescence--because I wanted more Grahmn and Doherty--Malachi Kirby manages to make his character both believably tough and open and light under the weight of a heavy history. Extras, sets and costumes galore!

Three main characters in A Thousand Blows. Man in a vest and pants , woman sitting on the ropes of a boxing ring and younger Jamaican man with his hands wrapped up for boxing.

watched Night of the Hunter-dude this scene was impressive. Its like the two ways people use the trappings of religion

older woman in rocking chair holding a shotgun while a teen girl holds a lit candle a man in black sits on a stump outside the window in the yard. He is a bad guy and the woman is protecting the children in the house but both are singing the same religious song.

In the Wake of War by Andrew F. Lang -I especially liked the discussion how the Emancipation Proclamation tried to keep black troops only in a garrison role but the need for both garrison troops and the desire for black troops to serve in the field overcame this.

U.S. Civil War books I've read this year: After Appomattox: Military Occupation and the Ends of War Gregory P. Downs--- I could feel my view shifting as I read. Loved following the at the time debates on what it means to use Fed. Power to police (or not police) I am going to to read it again

Civil war books I've read this year. 1st up. Choctaw Confederates by Fay A. Yarbrough. Loved seeing the U.S Civil War starting from the prospective of the Choctaw. Really helped me focus on the idea of The West happening at the same time as The Civil War and how connected everything is.
