Zelenskyy has appointed well-respected Mykhailo Drapatyi as the new head of Ukraine’s ground forces. He had an important role in the 2022 Kherson offensive. This year, he was responsible for the defense of Vovchansk. He’s famous for “the flying IFV” when Ukrainian forces retook Mariupol in 2014. 🇺🇦

Polls in Iceland show that EU membership has become popular, with 45% of voters in favour, 35% against and the rest undecided. Support for joining the EU was much lower in the recent past. Leading parties in the elections on Saturday also propose EU membership. Iceland could be EU’s next member.

The reason Ireland gave for not joining the Schengen area in 1985 was the existence of the CTA (Common Travel Area) with the UK, which would have disappeared if Ireland joined and the UK did not. As there is no physical border in Northern Ireland, Schengen would have required putting one in place.
